I could feel Aliona's attention shift the moment I denied any bond with Elliot without hesitation. It was subtle, but in our world—where instincts always spoke louder than words—it was enough. Her eyes narrowed slightly, like she was trying to read a scent that didn't make sense.

For a brief moment, I caught the thought behind her expression. Could it be that she really doesn't care about Elliot? Does that mean she won't interfere with me?

"I am sorry for being presumptuous," she said quickly, smoothing her tone back into politeness.

"It is fine," I replied, offering a small smile as I lifted my teacup. My voice stayed steady, even though my instincts were restless under my skin. "I will be heading back to the office now."

I left the pantry, but I could still feel her gaze pressing into my back like a silent evaluation. The kind of look a rival wolf gives when deciding whether another female is a threat to her chosen Alpha.
