Chapter 218 - Loyalties

Ashton used to do things like that too. The thought crashed in uninvited, and I dropped my gaze, my nose wrinkling against the feeling that came with it.

Marcus didn't catch it. He just grinned. "It's not a waste. We're using it now, aren't we?"

We walked through the apartment together. Most things were in order, but the kitchen was bare. Marcus had probably assumed I didn't cook much and hadn't bothered stocking it. He wasn't entirely wrong, but he wasn't entirely right either.

"Anything missing?" he asked, updating the door key and fingerprint code to my details.

I thought for a moment. "Since you're free tonight, what if we cook here? I can call Macy and Jackson, have them come over. I should let them know I'm okay. Ever since I left, it's like I disappeared off the face of the earth."

He nodded, though something in his expression shifted, just barely. I didn't look too closely.
