Valerie's POV
Anita didn't leave immediately after telling me about Alpha Demon forcing Mike to accept me.
At first I thought it was just her being her usual self and wanting to take care of me like before. However, I soon noticed that something was off about her.
She was too quiet and her fingers fidgeted with the strap of her bag, eyes darting toward the door like she was afraid someone would walk in and hear what she'd already said.
This didn't seem like the Anita I had come to know. She was never this timid. So, what is happening now?
"Is there something else?" I asked quietly to pull her out of her misery.
She hesitated for a moment before looking me straight in the eye and opening her mouth to speak.
"Val….there is an order." I noticed that she had changed the way she calls me. Now, she uses my nickname.
But wait….did she just mention an order?
My heart slowed instead of accelerating the way it should when someone is excited or afraid.
