Chapter 156 - Ch156: War of the best(3)

The frozen bay, once a pristine expanse of Aokiji's power, had become a charnel house.

The initial clash of the vanguards had dissolved into a sprawling, chaotic melee where the lines between Marine and Pirate blurred into a single, seething mass of violence.

In the air, the scent of blood and the acrid smoke of gunpowder, were rent by a continuous symphony of war: the clang of swords, the thud of clubs on shields, the sharp crack of rifles, and the roars and dying screams of ten thousand combatants.

From his vantage point on the Moby Dick, Whitebeard's eyes, sharp and calculating despite his age, scanned the battlefield.

His sons were fighting valiantly, but they were being funneled and contained.

The Marine strategy was becoming clear: let the pirates exhaust themselves against the walls of elite soldiers and Vice Admirals before committing their ultimate weapons.

He needed to break their formation, to create an opening wide enough for a true push towards the platform where Ace was chained.

His gaze fell upon the two remaining tsunamis, now magnificent, glittering cliffs of ice on either side of the bay. A grim smile touched his lips. Aokiji had given him new ammunition.

"Marco! Jozu!" his voice boomed, cutting through the din like a war horn.

High above, Marco disengaged from his high-speed dance with Kizaru, weaving through a volley of light beams to acknowledge his father.

On the ground, Jozu, having shrugged off a coordinated attack from a squad of Marines, looked up at his pops.

"Clear a path!" Whitebeard commanded. "I'm opening the way!"

He once again clenched his fists, the familiar pearlescent glow enveloping them. But this time, he didn't punch the air in front of him.

He turned slightly and drove his fist into the empty space beside the ship, aiming directly at the base of the frozen tsunami to their starboard side.

CRRRRAAAAA-BOOOOOM!

The sound was even more deafening than the first, a localized apocalypse of fracturing reality. The immense ice cliff, a monument to Admiral-level power, shuddered violently from its very core.

The Gura Gura no mi vibrations didn't just shake it, they liquefied its internal structure. With a groan of protesting physics, the entire cliff face sheared off from its base.

Millions of tons of ice, now a cascading avalanche of house-sized boulders and deadly shrapnel, thundered down towards the Marines' right flank.

The effect was catastrophic. The Marine soldiers stationed there had no time to react.

The wall of ice and snow plowed through their ranks, crushing fortifications, obliterating cannon emplacements, and scattering bodies like twigs.

A wide, gruesome lane of destruction was carved directly through the Marine defense, leading straight into the middle of the plaza. A path had been opened.

"NOW!" Whitebeard roared. "ADVANCE!"

A renewed surge of hope and fury powered the Whitebeard Pirates.

They poured through the newly created breach, their battle cries unified and terrifying. Commanders like Izo, his twin pistols never missing a shot, and Namur, the fish-man karate expert, led the charge, cutting down any Marine brave or foolish enough to stand in their way.

Sengoku, watching from the execution platform, gritted his teeth. "He's using our own power against us! All units, reinforce the right flank! Don't let them consolidate!"

But the momentum had shifted. The battle was no longer a static slaughter on the ice; it was a dynamic, fluid invasion.

It was then that a new, unexpected variable entered the fray.

From the frozen periphery, a small, determined group broke through the Marine lines. It was not a Whitebeard-allied ship, but a single, battered vessel that had seemingly appeared from nowhere.

Leading the charge from it was a figure whose presence sent a jolt of disbelief through the higher echelons of the Marines.

"Impossible..." Garp muttered, his eyes wide as he stood up from the steps.

Straw Hat Luffy, having bypassed the main blockades through a combination of sheer luck and the insider knowledge of former Warlord Jinbe and the help of a cloaked figure, landed on the ice with a battle cry that was entirely his own.

"ACCCCCEEEEEE!" he screamed, his voice raw with desperation and brotherly love.

He didn't pause. He launched himself forward, a rubbery blur of red and blue, ignoring the grand strategy and the clashing titans. His goal was singular, linear, and utterly predictable to anyone who knew him: get to the platform.

"Gomu Gomu no... Storm Fist!" he yelled, his arms whirring like propellers before unleashing a whirlwind of punches that sent a dozen Marines flying.

He was a tornado of chaotic energy, disrupting formations and drawing attention away from the Whitebeard commanders' more disciplined push.

"Luffy...!" Ace whispered, his heart lurching in his chest. A new kind of fear gripped him, not for himself, but for his little brother, who had thrown himself into the heart of hell for him.

The Warlords watched the new development with varying degrees of interest.

"Doflamingo, fufufufu... this is getting more and more interesting," the string-manipulator cackled, his fingers twitching. "The Revolutionary Dragon's son... what a delightful mess."

Mihawk's golden ringed eyes narrowed, focusing on the streaking form of Luffy. "So, you are the one who has caused such a stir," he mused.

He had seen something in this boy when he had met him before, a strange, magnetic power to draw people to his cause.

He made a mental note, but did not move. The boy was not his prey today, and I believe that idiot would be unhappy if I did something to him.

The arrival of Luffy acted as a catalyst, intensifying the fighting to a new fever pitch.

The Whitebeard Pirates, seeing this reckless, determined kid fighting with everything he had for their brother, found a second wind. They redoubled their efforts, pushing deeper into the plaza.

Seeing the line about to break, a massive figure landed in front of Luffy's path with a ground-shaking impact. It was Vice Admiral John Giant, a colossus among men, wielding a sword as large as a ship's mast.

"Halt, Straw Hat! You go no further!" he bellowed, swinging his colossal blade down in an arc meant to crush the young pirate into paste.

Luffy, his eyes wide, barely managed to leap back, the wind pressure from the swing alone sending him tumbling. He was outmatched in pure size and power.

But before the Giant could press his attack, a shadow fell over him. Little Oars Jr., having finally battered his way through the cannon fire, loomed over the Vice Admiral.

"Don't you hurt my big brother's little brother!" Oars Jr. roared, swinging one of his massive cutlasses.

The two giants engaged in an earth-shattering duel, their blows creating craters in the ice and sending shockwaves through the nearby combatants, giving Luffy the opening he needed to scramble forward once more.

The battle had fractured into a dozen epicenters of conflict.

Marco and Kizaru continued their dazzling aerial duel, a struggle of regeneration versus overwhelming speed.

Jozu was now trading blows with another Vice Admiral, his diamond form deflecting powerful Rankyaku slashes.

Izo and his marksmen provided covering fire from a vantage point, picking off Marine officers with surgical precision.

Luffy, a beacon of chaotic good, drew the ire of countless Marines, fighting his way ever closer, aided by Jinbe's powerful Fish-Man Karate, who seemed to be acting on his own vendetta against the World Government.

And through it all, the two main players, Whitebeard and the now seated again Admirals, watched and waited. Whitebeard's initial move had been countered, his second move had opened a path, and now the battle was a complex, bloody puzzle.

He knew the Admirals would not remain passive for long.
