Axel and Olivia walked into the Professor's study. The air in the room was heavy.
Charles and Eric (Magneto) looked at them with hope, but also with a little bit of fear.
Charles explained everything. He talked about the government's plan to force all mutants to register like animals.
He talked about the "cure" serum that would destroy their gifts and might even kill them.
As Axel listened, his hands began to smoke. The wood on the table started to turn black.
He wasn't smiling anymore.
He was truly angry.
"They want to take away who you are? Just because they are scared?"
Olivia didn't move, but the temperature in the room dropped.
The shadows in the corners of the room started to grow and wiggle.
Her eyes turned a deep, dark purple.
"It is a lack of respect,"
She said coldly.
Because they were still young gods, their control wasn't perfect. When they got emotional, their power started to leak out.
Charles and Eric immediately felt the pressure. It felt like the ceiling was falling down.
Charles used all his mental strength to create a shield, and Eric moved the metal in the walls to reinforce the room.
Together, they worked hard just to stop the room from exploding!
Charles wiped sweat from his head.
He had felt this kind of power once before. It was years ago, when Jean Grey was a little girl.
When Jean first awakened, her power was like a hungry bird of fire. It was so big it could have burned the whole world.
Back then, Charles didn't know about the Phoenix Force. He only knew Jean wasn't ready.
He had to put "mental blocks" in her mind to keep the power asleep.
He did it to protect her. If he hadn't, Jean would have lost her mind and burned everything.
But seeing Axel and Olivia now, he realized that some powers are just too big for a human world.
"Please, children,"
Charles gasped.
"Calm your hearts. We are safe for now."
Axel took a deep breath. The smoke stopped. Olivia closed her eyes, and the shadows went back to normal.
Charles and Eric slumped in their seats, sighing in big relief.
"Sorry about that, Professor. Uncle Eric,"
Axel said, calling Magneto 'Uncle' without thinking.
"We got a little carried away."
"Don't worry about the government,"
Olivia added.
"We know someone who can handle humans. He knows exactly how to talk to presidents and kings."
"Who?"
Magneto asked.
"Our butler, Sebastian,"
Axel said with a grin.
"He's been working for Great Grandpa Stan for a long, long time. Like, a million years at least. He's seen worlds rise and fall. A few politicians won't be a problem for him."
When the X-Men and Magneto heard this, they felt like a giant weight had been lifted off their shoulders. As for millions of years. They thought it was a joke.
If a servant of Stan Lee was going to help, they knew the "cure" plan would fail.
Magneto stood up to leave. He looked at Axel and Olivia with respect.
"You two are remarkable. Charles is lucky to have you here. But remember, my school—the Acolytes—is always open. We focus on strength and being proud of who we are. You should visit sometime."
Axel's eyes lit up.
"A school for strength? That sounds way better than math class! We'll definitely come take a look, Uncle Eric."
Olivia gave a small nod.
"We will visit soon."
Magneto left the room, leaving only Charles with the siblings. The Professor looked at them for a long time.
"Axel, Olivia,"
Charles said softly.
"I have one more thing to ask. I saw how you helped Jean today with the 'Quiet Zone.' And I see how you control your own power."
He looked toward the door where Jean was waiting outside.
"Jean has a power inside her. It is growing. It is like a fire that wants to eat everything. I have hidden it behind walls in her mind, but the walls are breaking. Can your power... help her control it? Without me having to hide it?"
Axel and Olivia looked at each other.
They knew about the Phoenix. They knew it was a cosmic force of life and death.
"The fire inside her is strong,"
Axel said.
"But my fire is the Primordial God Fire. It doesn't have to fight hers. I can teach her how to let it breathe without burning the house down."
Olivia nodded.
"And my Void can give her mind a place to rest when the power becomes too loud. We can help her, Professor. She doesn't have to be afraid of herself anymore."
Charles smiled, and for the first time in years, he looked truly happy.
"Thank you. That is all I ever wanted for her."
