Charlotte stood frozen for several seconds. Processing. Computing. Then her brain finally caught up with what I had just asked.
Lightning mana sparked to life across her hands. She came at me with murder practically leaking from her eyes.
But before she could even close the gap, my hand shot beneath the bedsheet. Security concerns had taught me a valuable habit. Always keep your weapon close.
My axe swung out and stopped right beside her neck.
She froze. Petrified. The lightning in her hands dying instantly.
"Looks like you want me to finish what I wasn't able to in our lovely fight."
Silence. Just the faint hum of residual mana leaving her palms.
Then I dropped the axe. It landed right beside her feet with a heavy thud.
THUNK.
I fell back on the bed. Relaxed. Hands behind my head.
