Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Destroyed Village

"Aaaah..."

The man stared at the monster before him in terror.

All his rage instantly turned into fear.

A mere low-level commoner of the Human Race.

Before a monster whose average attributes were higher than those of the Human Race, he was absolutely weak; even escaping was a luxury.

The monster didn't waste any words.

It took a step forward.

Before the man could even think about running, it killed him... Back at the tree hollow,

Si woke up from her sleep.

This was already her second day in the mountain range.

She looked back in the direction she had come from.

She found no human tracks.

It meant she had bet correctly.

Even a Noble wouldn't be generous enough to send pursuers deep into such a dangerous area for an uninitiated slave like her, and those villagers certainly didn't have the courage.

She roasted the remaining bird eggs.

After eating breakfast,

Si left the tree hollow and began to explore the surroundings.

Her plan was to use this place as her base.

After two days,

Si was no longer as nervous as she had been at the start.

One reason was that her ability to adapt was not weak.

There was another reason.

It was because she was no longer a weakling.

Her MP had already increased to three digits, approaching four.

Though HP was still a major problem,

she now had the confidence to explore.

"It doesn't seem like there's any danger..."

After scouting the area,

she hadn't found any powerful creatures.

The more common creatures were birds and reptiles; so far, she hadn't seen any mammals.

However, it wasn't that there were no creatures capable of threatening her; it was just that everyone minded their own business and hadn't clashed. She didn't know if it was due to the effect of her skill.

This was a skill that could hide one's presence and erase one's sense of existence. Perhaps it was precisely because of this skill's effect that she hadn't disturbed the original residents of this forest.

Then, what came as a pleasant surprise

was that some fruits in the forest were edible.

Because her skill was as high as LV5,

it helped her a great deal.

Using Water Magic, she managed to get quite a few fruits—after all, climbing trees was quite risky.

Recalling her luck along the way,

Si couldn't help but look at her reincarnation skill.

"It couldn't be..."

Could this skill not be about accumulating wealth,

but rather representing 'Luck'?

But there was no other explanation.

She was quite confident in her own luck; based on her experience from two transmigration starts, she was definitely not the kind of person born under a lucky star. Thus, this current luck seemed abnormal no matter how she looked at it, and was very likely a skill effect.

But she was also somewhat puzzled.

If this skill symbolized luck,

shouldn't she have been born into a wealthy family from the start?

Being born a commoner yet possessing a luck-type skill like seemed a bit deliberate no matter how she looked at it.

However, to say she was unlucky didn't seem right either.

Because someone truly unlucky couldn't transmigrate twice.

As someone who had transmigrated twice, maybe the bad luck of her two 'hell-mode' starts was because transmigrating consumed too much luck. After all, a Transmigrator couldn't be truly unlucky; even the unlucky ones in novels actually possess very high luck because they have an unreasonable protagonist aura.

Si didn't dare imagine such a whimsical thing as having a protagonist aura, but at this moment, she felt her luck had definitely turned. This skill was exactly what she had dreamed of. Thinking of this, she found joy in her hardship and became even more full of expectations for the future.

Having collected a lot of food,

the next step was to build a little nest.

The tree hollow was solid; it would probably hold up even if it rained.

She just needed to prevent rainwater from accumulating and entering the entrance, so she still needed to create a drainage system.

Naturally, it couldn't be a modern drainage system.

She didn't have the conditions for that,

nor did she possess that kind of knowledge.

The so-called 'drainage system'

was just digging a few more pits nearby.

Well... ground pits.

This could also serve as a simple toilet.

And next was collecting resources.

Lotus leaves.

Dry wood.

Dry grass.

And so on... these things had to be collected in advance.

Luckily it hadn't rained lately,

otherwise it would have been quite troublesome.

After a day of busying herself,

it seemed she hadn't really accomplished much.

Moreover, the appearance of her home wasn't very good either.

In any case,

she had no experience in this area,

nor was she a genius.

So the things she made were really poor.

But the functions she wanted were basically there. They should be there, right? So she was satisfied. There were actually many more things to consider next.

For example, her clothes were a big problem.

The cloth garment she was wearing wouldn't last long.

Although combining leaves with tough branches

could make relatively simple clothes

that could cover her body—so they could barely be called clothes, right?—the wearing experience was really terrible, and they probably wouldn't provide warmth in winter.

So she should also consider finding animal pelts to make clothes, but she hadn't seen any mammals nearby, and mammalian creatures were all quite aggressive, which meant she had to be prepared for combat.

"Survival in the wild is truly hard. Without skills, I probably wouldn't survive more than a few days. And with no entertainment, my mental state might run into problems if this continues."

She used to be the kind of person who could live alone without contacting or speaking to anyone.

But only when she was truly cast into the wild to live by herself did she realize she wasn't as capable of living alone as she thought. This sense of loneliness, as if she were the only person in the world, made her mood very low... Meanwhile, in a small village by the mountain range,

a group of people in black suddenly appeared and broke into the village.

"Who are you?!"

A hunter who had just returned from hunting saw these people in black. Sensing something was wrong, he shouted sternly. The villager guards responsible for patrolling the village entrance also noticed the commotion because of his voice, and for a moment, they all looked at the group with unease.

The people in black did not speak.

The Person in Black next to the hunter raised a hand from beneath their black robe. In that instant, a sharp blade was drawn, and a cold flash of steel pierced the hunter's neck. All the people in black prepared to attack, charging into the village without giving the villagers any time to react; they were like heartless killing machines.

Facing this group of sinister people in black,

the villagers had no power to fight back at all.

In a short time,

the village was slaughtered clean.

Not a single soul was left alive.

The people in black killed all the villagers,

and then they split into two groups.

Four of them headed back,

while two of them moved toward the mountain range.

No one knew who they were.

Even less did they understand why they would slaughter such a backward and impoverished little village; there was no reason for them to do so, as this place was a fringe area that could be destroyed by Magic Beasts or the Demon Race at any time.

The village didn't even have a name.
