Chapter 38 - Chapter 35 : Mica and Calix

(That soaking wet scene at clinic is still the same so I didn't write.)

JAY'S POV :

After dragging myself back from the clinic, we dove straight into classes. God, it was frustrating—pure torture. I couldn't focus at all.

My mind kept replaying that clinic moment: his gentle touch, the careful way he dabbed on the antiseptic. God, I love him.

The bell finally snapped me out of it. I grabbed my bag and headed for the main gate, weaving through the hallway chaos.

Just as I neared the main gate, a familiar voice pierced the chatter.

"Jay!"

I spun around. Alys was hurrying over, her energy electric as always, with Mica close behind—her steps measured, face a mix of reluctance and resolve.

The second they caught up, Alys exploded.

"Jay! OMG! How did you pull that off? Talking to Freya like she's nobody? We're all scared stiff of her, but you? Total boss mode—'I don't care about anything!' Vibe"

I shrugged, a grin tugging at my lips from her sheer excitement.

"Maybe because I really don't."

"JAY! You're amazing! Oh my God, you're so brave—like, seriously—"

"—Hey, mind clueing me in on why you're actually here?" I interrupted lightly. She was winding up for a monologue.

Alys beamed and nudged Mica forward.

"Actually, Mica wants to talk to you."

I turned to her. She offered a nervous smile, twisting her fingers together.

"I—"

I jumped in before she could fumble.

"I should've played that recording sooner. I didn't see it coming—they framed you out of nowhere."

Mica met my eyes steadily, her voice polite and even, carrying a quiet grace.

"No, it's all right. I understand completely. I wanted to thank you properly—for stepping in and saving me."

I shook my head.

"Not just that. I shouldn't have yelled Calix's name like that. I know you two aren't on good terms. It just popped into my head in the panic—I regret putting you in that spot."

"It's fine, really. No harm done."

"Yeah, but still…"

An awkward silence stretched between us, thick as the humid air outside. Alys fidgeted, glancing between us like she might burst if we didn't move.

"Sooo… let's get out of here?" I said, forcing an awkward smile.

"Yeah," Mica said.

We fell into step together, the afternoon sun warming the path ahead. The three of us falling into easy chatter about nothing—school gossip, the ridiculous cafeteria food, Alys's latest crush drama.

It lightened the mood, but curiosity gnawed at me. As we neared the split in the path, curiosity won out.

"Mica, one thing—if you don't mind?"

"Go ahead."

"What went down between you and Calix? The full story."

She paused, eyes clouding briefly, then opened up.

(Same as drama, but with alys)

The Next Day

Classes dragged on, as boring as ever.

But Calix? He looked like someone had stomped on his heart—hunched shoulders, distant stare.

I had to confront him. No more avoiding it. I'd catch him after the bell.

It rang, and he bolted like a shadow. Our classmates were too wrapped up in their own worlds to notice. I started after him, but Cin ambushed me from the side.

"Jay, my lunch!"

Tss. Perfect timing, Ci.

I shoved the lunchbox into his hands and bolted, not caring if those classroom snakes swiped it. Calix is my priority now.

Instinct pulled me straight to the music room—no idea why, but it felt right. And there he was, slumped on a bench, head buried in his hands, shoulders shaking with quiet sobs.

I slipped inside and sat on the bench beside him. He jerked up, eyes red-rimmed, swiping at them furiously. But the tears kept coming.nI rested a hand on his shoulder, light but steady, letting him ride it out.

"I-it's… Th-thank you for saving M-Mica," he choked out between sobs.

"It means… everything to me."

I squeezed his shoulder.

"Well, I started the mess, so it was my job to fix it. Don't think of it as helping—just making up for my screw-up. Leave that. Now, tell me: why the tears?"

He drew a shaky breath, sobs slowing just enough.

"Sh-she was… my g-girlfriend."

When the storm eased, he kept going, voice raw.

"We were good at first. But the problem? Me. I'm a stupid idiot—always have been. Even when we were together, I was confused. Did I really like her? Then she left, and it hit me: I love her. Love her so damn much I can't move on. Yesterday, after you guys headed to the clinic, she yanked free from my grip, glared like I was poison, and just… walked away."

Guilt twisted in my gut again.

"I shouldn't have dragged you into that call-out. I made everything worse."

He shook his head, tears glistening.

"No. You were trying to save her—I get it. And thanks. At least I got those few minutes with her….I wanna fix it. I know I don't deserve forgiveness, but I can't live without her. I have to try. Make up for being such a fool."

I managed a small smile, hoping it reached my eyes.

"Don't worry. If your love's real, you'll find your way back together."

"I hope so," he whispered, wiping his face one last time.
