Chapter 110 - Yukinoshita Haruno and the New Transfer Student, Hikigaya Hachiman

Board Chairman's Office.

It had already been a week since the ship exam ended.

Narumori was currently reviewing documents, and beside him was a charming figure.

The beautiful girl had short shoulder-length black hair with slightly purplish tips. Her face looked pure and sweet, yet held a mischievous impression.

This figure was none other than Yukinoshita Haruno.

Haruno sat on Narumori's desk without the slightest courtesy. Casually, she snatched the document folder and began reading it.

Narumori felt very helpless; Haruno was the daughter of his good friend, Yukinoshita Aoi. He couldn't do anything about this impudent child.

Haruno freely flipped through the student data as if she were at home.

Narumori immediately snatched the data back and said in an annoyed tone.

"You naughty child, what did you come here for?"

Haruno wasn't angry when her documents were taken. Instead, she stuck out her tongue mischievously.

"Uncle Sakayanagi, don't be so cold~ Are there any interesting people at your school? Can you introduce them to me?"

"The Yukinoshita family is short on expert personnel. If Uncle has suitable talent, you must send them to our family~"

Haruno showed a fake innocent expression.

Narumori sighed, "What's your real business? Just say it directly, don't beat around the bush."

Seeing her charade exposed, Haruno got straight to the point.

"A few months ago, my family's driver accidentally hit someone while taking my little sister to school."

"It happened that at that time my father was running for Chiba prefecture council member, so there couldn't be any scandal. Otherwise, his campaign could fail..."

"So I took the personal decision to give monetary compensation to the victim's family, but unfortunately they refused."

"I'm worried there will be problems later. Since money was refused, I'll give compensation in another form."

Haruno jumped down from the desk, patted her skirt, and said with a sly innocent face.

"So, Uncle Sakayanagi, does your school still have empty seats? I want to enroll that kid in your school."

"As a school second only to Shuchi'in Academy, Advanced Nurturing High School is a prestigious place. Plus, he can attend here for free. This compensation should be enough for that family, right?"

"Even if he doesn't graduate from here, the fact that he attended Advanced Nurturing High School will be a plus on his CV. At least he won't have to worry about finding work out there."

Facing Haruno's request, Narumori agreed quickly. After all, this wasn't a difficult matter. Arranging one transfer student was considered helping his good friend.

Seeing her uncle agree, Haruno started acting up again. She requested that the new transfer student be placed in Class A as a form of "special attention."

Narumori didn't immediately agree. He checked the personal data of the student named Hikigaya Hachiman and shook his head disappointedly.

This kid had good academic grades, but his personality was too withdrawn and antisocial. He had certain character flaws that made him unsuitable for Class A.

Haruno disagreed. She snatched the data, took Narumori's stamp, and directly pressed it onto the document.

"Ehe!"

Then she ran out mischievously. Haruno peeked her head in the door while grinning. "I'm entrusting that kid to you, Uncle! Must enter Class A, promise!"

After saying so, Haruno waved cheerfully and really left.

Narumori could only smile resignedly seeing the already-stamped document. "Oh well... consider it helping this little girl."

Once out of the room, the smile on Haruno's face slowly disappeared, changing to a serious expression. "With this, Father's campaign should be safe... I didn't expect such a trivial matter to happen at such a critical time. But fortunately the other party didn't sue and didn't prolong the issue. Otherwise, I'd really have to consider sinking that dead-fish-eyed brat into Tokyo Bay forever..."

Hachiman didn't know he had just escaped death because he didn't sue the Yukinoshita family. Otherwise, that family could really have sunk him to preserve their political reputation.

◆━⊰✿✧✿⊱━◆

Three days later...

Hachiman arrived at school alone. He was currently sitting restlessly in the teachers' room. In front of him was the current Class A homeroom teacher, Hoshinomiya Chie.

Chie was observing the pair of dead fish eyes before her. The more she looked, the more familiar they seemed. It seemed there was someone in her class with eyes like that too?

Chie suspected they were siblings, so she directly asked.

"Do you have a younger sister who also has dead fish eyes? Named Himeno Yuki?"

"Hehe..." Hachiman laughed self-deprecatingly. "If there really was a girl with dead fish eyes like this, most likely she'd never get married her whole life."

"Ugh..." Chie felt a bit oppressed seeing the gloomy aura emanating from the kid before her.

(Why did the Board Chairman put such a problem child in my class? This is Class A, not Class D...)

Chie felt dizzy. However, since this was the Board Chairman's referral, she guessed this kid had "connections," just like the Chairman's own daughter. She had no choice but to accept him.

She tidied her books and looked at Hachiman. "Follow me, I'll take you to class."

Hachiman just nodded. He walked behind Chie with hunched shoulders, like a zombie emitting thick black energy.

His pair of dead fish eyes that looked very "rotten" made Chie uncomfortable, so the teacher reflexively kept her distance.

Hachiman laughed cynically in his heart again.

"Hehe... as expected, my youth is truly problematic. This damn world! Just be destroyed!"

Chie pretended not to hear. She covered her ears and walked toward the classroom.

Once she arrived, she felt relieved and wiped the sweat from her forehead. She really didn't want to be alone with this kid, it felt like she'd get infected and become a useless person too...

Chie pushed open the classroom door and entered with her usual cheerful style. She clapped her hands to get her students' attention. "Children, pay attention here~"

The Class A students were very cooperative. Chie smiled; her students were indeed the best. Not like that pathetic Sae who still couldn't unite her class until now.

Chie mocked Sae in her heart while introducing the new student.

Hachiman walked in with a hunched body.

"Sensei will introduce our new transfer student. His name is Hikigaya Hachiman, he transferred from Sobu High School. He's also a smart student~"

After all, Sobu High School was only one level below Advanced Nurturing High School. The only school on the same level as Advanced Nurturing High School was Shuchi'in Academy—a school built specifically for aristocrats and the super-rich without commoners (though rumor had it they recently started accepting ordinary people).

The students straightened in their seats to see the new student, but upon seeing the iconic dead fish eyes, they were all stunned.

"Very familiar dead fish eyes... I think I've seen them somewhere..."

Reflexively, the students shifted their gazes toward Himeno Yuki who was face-down on her desk, pretending to sleep due to anemia.

Himeno, who was pretending to sleep, furrowed her brow. She felt like she was being stared at by many people. Since she had her face down, she didn't know what was happening, but those stares were too piercing. She opened her eyes, pretending to just wake up, then yawned.

"What is it?"

The students didn't answer with words. They just pointed at the new student, then pointed at Himeno. The meaning was clear: See for yourself.

Himeno was full of question marks. "Huh? What's going on?"

Reflexively she looked in the direction her classmates pointed, and instantly she froze.

A young man who was hunched over, had one strand of hair standing up (ahoge), and a pair of iconic dead fish eyes—eyes that looked rotten and lifeless like in a deep abyss.

The main point wasn't that, but his eyes! They really resembled her own eyes!

(Could he be my father's illegitimate child out there?)

Himeno began to suspect whether this student was her discarded younger or older brother. Considering the identical eyes, if you said they had no blood relation, she herself wouldn't believe it. She immediately took out her phone and called her father in front of the class to confirm whether her father was having an affair.

The call connected. Himeno immediately asked without preamble, "Old man! Are you having an affair behind Mom's back?"

"Why is there someone out there who has dead fish eyes exactly the same as our family!!!"

Himeno's father was confused. "What nonsense are you talking about? I only have one daughter, which is you, where would an affair come from?"

"Besides, your mother watches me very strictly, do you think I have the opportunity?"

Hearing her pitiful father's honest confession, Himeno felt disgusted and certain that the young man wasn't her sibling. She immediately hung up the phone.

Seeing her classmates still looking at her suspiciously, Himeno exploded! She showed her small fangs and snarled fiercely.

"What are you looking at?! I already confirmed it earlier, didn't I? I really don't know him! He's not my sibling!"

"If you stare at me like that again, I'll gouge out your eyes and make them into pickles!"

The students immediately looked away.

(If we can't look then fine, so fierce. No wonder no one wants her.) They thought in their hearts without daring to say it out loud.

Since Ryunosuke exposed Himeno's facade, the girl really released her true nature and no longer pretended.

Hachiman reflexively looked up because he sensed an aura from "the same kind." When he saw a girl who had eyes exactly like his, his eyes sparkled slightly, as if finding a fellow compatriot.

Himeno Yuki... she now wanted to hit someone! Her hands clenched until they cracked.

Hachiman reflexively shrunk his neck. This girl must not be provoked... she seemed to be the hot-tempered type.

Right after that, Hachiman walked to the front of the class with a cold gaze. Not because he deliberately acted cold, but his face was just born that way.

With his dead fish eyes, he wrote his name on the blackboard: Hikigaya Hachiman. Then he bowed slightly and introduced himself.

"Eto... my name is Hikigaya Hachiman. For the next three years... please take care of me."

Hachiman's voice grew smaller, he lost the courage to continue. He felt very bad.

At this school there was no cute Komachi, he felt his life was pitch black.

(Ah... just leave it like this, let me sink like a dead fish, stop struggling.)

Just when Hachiman thought he would be ignored by everyone as usual, a bright light like an angel pierced his eyes until he could barely see. It was Ichinose Honami.

With her usual bright smile, Honami was the first person to stand and clap to welcome Hachiman.

Seeing this, the other students also clapped to welcome their new classmate.

Hachiman, who had already lost hope, heard that enthusiastic applause and looked up. He saw the entire class welcoming him.

His mind returned to the past, comparing his previous failed self-introduction with the current warm welcome.

(It seems... this school isn't bad...) Hachiman thought in his heart. But then he stared at the girl who led the applause, Honami.

The type he hated most. A kind-hearted girl... he hated them most. Because their kindness was given to everyone, not just to him. And he often mistakenly thought that kindness was only his, until he ended up hurt.

Based on his experience of being rejected 130 times in middle school, this girl was definitely a "big boss"!

Currently, Hachiman hadn't met Yukinoshita Yukino yet; this was the darkest period of his life, plus the accident incident that delayed his enrollment made him feel isolated.

His thinking at this time was still very... well, you could say twisted, and needed someone to straighten it out.
