"I shouldn't have followed her."
That was my first thought as I pushed between drunken college kids, ignoring Madison yelling my name behind me and only focused on the flash of Brooklyn's dress as she staggered toward the side exit. I was meant to be guiding the party and I had to keep things professional. I would be the responsible faculty who did not follow students when they were drunk.
But this was Brooklyn. It was unbearable watching her do shots without looking at me. And first and foremost it was just her falling outside by herself caught completely drunk.
"I was weak, so I followed her. Because it had been hell since she had shunned me for two weeks. Because having looked at her tonight in that dress, her hair down and her eyes the color of pain, I was reminded painfully of what had made me fall for her all those years ago.
