"I have thought it through. I do not need an entire night to decide. Powerful women think fast and act wisely.
"I just did both, and now it's time for you to go home."
"You're wise," he agreed. "But not powerful enough."
I hissed.
Because it was true.
And I hated that it was.
I moved a few distances away from him.
"So you propose marriage," I said, eyes narrowing, "and strictly because of business."
"I propose marriage because I'm willing to spend forever with you."
"Marriage takes more than willingness," I said bluntly, flicking my eyes towards him.
"It takes being a man."
I nodded. "It takes more than being a man, Cassian. It takes respect, submission, surrendering… and love, and honour."
He hesitated briefly.
"Even that—every one of it—I'm willing to offer everything just to see you rise."
He sounded like the man I'd fallen in love with over the past couple of months.
But this was ridiculous.
Too ridiculous to be true.
