AYLA
Believe me, I had no idea what I was doing or why I was running.
I was feeling everything too fast and hard.
And I wanted steady. Not fast or slow.
I wanted everything under control.
Happy pill.
I was definitely killing Gia for this. Or maybe kissing her a thank you.
Right now, I didn't feel happy; I felt like I was over the moon and not beneath it—beneath its light, barefoot and… alive.
"You're going to fall," Cassian warned.
I turned mid-sprint, walking backwards now, my hair floating like the tides, grin wide and daring. "Then catch me."
I saw the look in his eyes.
The impulse...the fire... the chase.
And I fucking knew he would.
I turned and sprinted forward towards the ocean.
Waves folded into themselves under the moonlight, silver streaks cutting through the darkness.
The closer I got, the more the water reflected against my skin.
"Shit!" Cassian cursed from behind, increasing his pace. "Not the water, Ayla!"
