Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Dragon vs Tiger

Flandre said she hadn't been in this area for long and was quite curious about the bustling Lungmen, so she took a good look around. Then she got into Beatrice's car.

The vehicle soon arrived at the Lungmen Guard Department. Inside the Guard Department, people were coming and going, making it look very lively. Fortunately, the two in the car didn't have to squeeze through the main entrance but instead drove around to a side garage. After arriving, Flandre happened to see Ch'en Huijie preparing to leave with a group of people.

"Sister Ch'en!" Flandre stuck her head out and waved at her.

"Officer Ch'en, is that child calling you?" An Operator standing next to Ch'en asked in confusion.

Ch'en Huijie glanced over and nearly fainted from shock. She jogged over to them. "What are you doing here?"

"Hey, how can you talk like that to a kid? A child comes to see you, and you can't even speak gently. Is she your child that you're so harsh?" Before Flandre could respond to Ch'en Huijie's words, Beatrice, who was driving, couldn't hold back. She was extremely annoyed by Ch'en Huijie's accusatory tone and immediately snapped back.

"And who are you? Why are you interacting with Flandre?" Ch'en Huijie turned to look at Beatrice upon hearing her question.

"Pink Sausage Dragon, who do you think you are to ask me that? Why am I interacting with Flandre? Have you ever cared about others? You let such a young child live alone in that big mansion without considering if she's lonely? You're a grown adult; if you don't have a brain, don't speak recklessly!"

Beatrice didn't hold back at all, leaving Ch'en Huijie speechless with her retort.

"But Flandre is a guest invited back by Governor Wei. Is it wrong for me to ask why she's here?" Ch'en Huijie's tone reluctantly softened.

"Then speak politely, or I'll keep scolding you!" The Little Tiger's combat power was now at its peak.

During their "friendly exchange," Flandre didn't say a word, sitting there with great interest, watching the dragon vs tiger battle before her. When attention was focused on her again, she slowly took out the appointment letter brought by Madam Fumizuki.

Ch'en Huijie was greatly shocked upon seeing its contents. What was Wei Yenwu thinking, making a Blood Demon the special consultant for the Major Crimes Unit? Was she crazy, or was he?

As Ch'en Huijie pondered, a tall woman with green hair leaned over to look at the contents. "So Governor Wei has found another expert for the Guard Department? Special consultant... wow, such high authority." After reading it, she looked at Beatrice, who was driving. "Do you think you can handle this job?"

"Huh? It's just being a police officer; why wouldn't I be able to!" Beatrice felt like this person was also mocking her.

"A special consultant isn't an ordinary police officer, and our Major Crimes Unit deals with very troublesome cases." Hoshiguma pointed at the appointment letter still in Ch'en Huijie's hand.

"Ah, I'm not the special consultant; it's this child!" Beatrice then realized the other person had mistaken her.

Hoshiguma turned in surprise to look at the little one by the car window, who resembled scrambled eggs with tomatoes... this child was the special consultant? She skeptically checked the signature of Wei Yenwu on the letter, then looked back at Flandre.

"Are you Flandre Scarlet?"

"That's right, I am Flandre." Flandre nodded.

"Hiss, are you an adult?" She started to ask her age but remembered it might be impolite, so she rephrased the question.

"Well, I have four and a half years left until I'm an adult." Flandre counted on her fingers and said seriously.

Surely this appointment letter was fake! How could Governor Wei let a minor work at the Guard Department, especially in such a dangerous unit like the Major Crimes Unit?

"But Madam Fumizuki brought this to me; she wouldn't lie, would she?" Flandre asked in confusion.

"Madam, huh..." Hoshiguma examined Flandre and finally noticed her somewhat strange Bat Wings, causing her pupils to contract. "Blood Demon!"

"Flandre isn't dangerous; her stay in Lungmen was personally agreed to by Governor Wei," Ch'en Huijie explained from the side.

"Forget it, I'll take you upstairs!" Confirming the appointment letter was from Wei Yenwu, though unclear what he was up to, it wasn't the right time to undermine him. She opened the car door and led Flandre out, then turned back to look at Swire after a few steps.

"Why are you following? Go back and tell Wei Yenwu I'll take good care of her."

Clearly, Ch'en Huijie mistook Beatrice for a driver arranged by Wei Yenwu for Flandre. Upon hearing this, Beatrice proudly took out another Guard Department employment notice.

"Sorry, I'm Flandre's neighbor and just happened to receive a notice to start work here."

To think she'd soon be a colleague. Considering her personality was completely unsuited for police work, why was she here? Ch'en Huijie frowned slightly. But Hoshiguma, glancing at the name on the appointment letter, said in surprise, "Beatrice Swire... you're from the Swire Family!"

"That's right... I am indeed a member of the Swire Family. What about it?" Beatrice said proudly.

Ch'en Huijie naturally knew this name; otherwise, she wouldn't have been so indifferent after being scolded earlier. As a childhood friend, she was a member of the Swire Family, whose chamber of commerce controlled many economic lifelines. Their family members appeared all over Lungmen, contributing significantly to its economic rise.

"Perfect, let's go in together!" Hoshiguma said with a friendly expression. Beatrice only disliked Ch'en Huijie but had no ill feelings toward Hoshiguma; instead, this somewhat goofy tall woman made her feel safe standing beside her.

After entering the building, the group quickly arrived at the Guard Department's Personnel Department. Then the Personnel Department Operators also experienced a shock. Mainly because Flandre looked too young; even if she was a Blood Demon, letting a child participate in Major Crimes Unit work still felt very inhumane.

Many Operators curious about Flandre gathered around her, eagerly asking about Blood Demons. Flandre said she didn't understand Blood Demons, but Blood Clans also drank blood and had Bat Wings, so they probably weren't much different; thus, talking about Blood Clans should have some similarities even if not exact.

So, she answered what she could when asked, and if she couldn't, a simple "Flandre doesn't know" would make the Operators' maternal instincts flare up, stopping further questions. Meanwhile, after starting work, Beatrice didn't go find anyone to arrange tasks but stood there watching Flandre, surrounded by everyone, with a happy smile.

Passing the Guard Department was easy, mainly due to Wei Yenwu's signature and endorsement, and because Ch'en Huijie brought her up and vouched for her reliability. After confirming the appointment, Flandre was led out by Swire.

"Where are you two going?" Before reaching the entrance, they met Ch'en Huijie, who had come to find Flandre.

"Flandre said her house is empty, so I'm taking her to buy some Dolls. Officer Ch'en, being so steady and experienced, must have long forgotten about young girls' hobbies!" Upon seeing Ch'en Huijie, Beatrice spoke sarcastically, making Ch'en Huijie's mouth twitch.

"That might have to wait; we happen to have a case here that needs Flandre's help to look at." Ch'en Huijie crouched down to look at Flandre. "Is that okay?"

"No problem!" Flandre nodded, and the three headed toward the Police Car outside. Sitting in the car, Flandre listened as Ch'en described the case: a Serial Murder where the victims were five sisters, killed at different times, each having a body part severed after death.

Since two of the bodies were discovered by outsiders, the news spread quickly, putting great pressure on the Guard Department. Governor Wei had ordered the Major Crimes Unit to solve the case within a deadline. But currently, the Guard Department's clues were insufficient to find the real culprit. Ch'en Huijie believed in Blood Demons' sensitivity to blood and hoped Flandre could help find something they missed.

Flandre nodded and followed her to all five crime scenes. Throughout, she remained very silent, with a somewhat strange expression.

"Did you find something?" Noticing Flandre's mood, Beatrice whispered.

"Sister Ch'en, I want to see those bodies." Flandre raised her hand.

"Those bodies are incomplete and look very terrifying, quite scary." Ch'en Huijie frowned.

"Are they scarier than a Blood Demon?" Flandre's words left Ch'en Huijie speechless. She stepped on the gas, and the car quickly returned to the Guard Department, then they went to the Morgue.

"I say, this is Major Crimes Unit business; why are you, a Beat Officer, following?" Ch'en Huijie looked at Beatrice with displeasure. Since she was with Flandre, there was nothing she could do, but usually, in the Morgue, besides the lying Beat Officers, those standing shouldn't enter.

"Hmph, I don't trust you," Beatrice said righteously. What's wrong with being a Beat Officer? Beat Officers can freely access most places in the Guard Department, and the Morgue isn't a high-clearance area, so Ch'en Huijie couldn't stop her from coming here.

Ch'en Huijie could only shake her head helplessly. She led them inside. Then, with the Forensic Doctor's help, Ch'en Huijie opened the Body Bags containing the five corpses one by one. Although refrigerated, the bodies had been outside for a while and were somewhat decayed. Plus, with various severed hands, feet, and heads, it looked very shocking.

For example, a certain Little Tiger lasted less than ten seconds before running out to vomit. Even Ch'en Huijie couldn't help but frown repeatedly at the highly impactful scene before her.
