Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 - The day my sister killed me killed me

The rain was louder than screaming.

It slammed against collapsed skyscrapers and broken highways, turning the remains of the city into a floating graveyard. Harley stood atop the final shelter tower, her enlarged body towering over the survivors gathered below.

This was humanity's last safe zone.

And it was failing.

Flood aberrations clawed at the foundations. Water levels rose by the second.

Harley turned to her sister.

"Mira. Activate evacuation protocol."

Mira didn't move.

Her eyes were empty.

"You still don't remember," Mira said quietly.

Harley frowned. "Remember what?"

"The family."

Harley's heart sank.

Five years ago, Mira begged her to save her childhood sweetheart and his family but she refused because of limited resources

"I told you," Harley said. "We couldn't save everyone."

Mira smiled.

That smile terrified her.

"You chose strangers over Ethan's parents," Mira whispered. "You chose efficiency over love."

A blade slid between Harley's ribs.

Warmth spilled down her side.

She stared at Mira in disbelief.

"I trusted you."

Mira's hands shook—but she didn't pull away.

"You taught me survival," Mira said. "Now I'm using it."

As Harley collapsed into the rain, her sight dissolved into darkness.

Her final thought was not anger.

It was regret.
