Chapter 56 - Chapter 55: The Conan Show

"A genius idea."

For an excellent brand, the name alone should instantly evoke the content.

After finalizing all the details for establishing the personal brand, Leon handed full authority for registering the new company over to Bonnie.

He rushed to Roc Nation and chatted with PR manager Pena late into the night.

This was done entirely to prepare for the spicy questions the host might ask during the recording of Conan tomorrow.

Although The Oprah Winfrey Show held an unshakable historical status in the interview show arena, in recent years, Conan O'Brien had achieved a double kill against Oprah in terms of ratings and reputation with his sharp and humorous hosting style.

Going on an interview show was risky for any celebrity.

The ratings for this kind of show came from the host continuously digging pits until they unearthed the unknown stories beneath a star's glamorous persona.

Most celebrities could harvest a wave of new fans after an interview, but a few fell into the host's trap and ended up with negative results.

What Leon had to do was maintain his "Street Jesus" cult persona and absolutely not let Conan's emotional tactics break his invincibility.

Regarding this, he expressed that the company's worries were completely unnecessary.

"Street Jesus" wasn't a persona; he was originally a piece of scum who struggled out of the bottom-tier mud.

The next morning, Leon flew to Atlanta, the headquarters of Turner Broadcasting System.

After the routine makeup session, he and host Conan went through the script once.

This kind of rehearsal-like "script read-through" was meaningless for a talk show; a host of Conan's level would never play by the book.

When facing Leon, he always had a frivolous smile on his face. Anyone could see he didn't take this B-list small fry seriously.

After the official recording began, Conan's questions were normal at first.

Conan asked jokingly, "As a white kid who grew up in Brownsville, I'm very curious—did you manage to keep your virginity intact?"

As soon as these words came out, the whole audience burst into laughter.

Leon immediately fired back, "I earned a lot of people's respect there..."

"On the contrary, Mr. Conan, if you had grown up there, the person sitting opposite me today might have been a lady."

Conan flushed red from the retort, and the audience below leaned back and forth with laughter.

The smell of gunpowder between the two grew stronger.

As a host who made a living with his mouth, being defeated by a fledgling rookie singer on his own talk show would be a humiliating thing for Conan.

"Do you know the rapper Chris Brown?"

"I've seen him, but we're not familiar."

"A few days ago, he mentioned you in a radio interview. He said you're a sinister villain and a soft egg."

"He can say these things to my face. The guy barking behind my back is the real soft egg."

When it came to the questions about private life, Conan knew his opportunity had come.

"Mr. Leon, I heard you and Hollywood's new goddess, Miss Margot Robbie, have officially announced you're together?"

"Yes."

"Congratulations. A white kid from the slums got the blonde beauty that all of America wants to bang~"

Fxxk.

Leon cursed inwardly. This host was taking him less and less seriously. One could imagine how spicy his next questions would be.

Conan asked with a wicked smile, "I heard a rumor recently that Miss Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio turned their on-screen romance into reality while filming The Wolf of Wall Street?"

Wow—

A huge gasp erupted from the audience.

Conan grinned from ear to ear. "What do you think about this, Leon? Hopefully, it's just a rumor~"

Leon lowered his head and remained silent for a few seconds. Although he was mentally prepared, he didn't expect the other party to unleash an ultimate move right off the bat.

Wasn't this naked humiliation?

"That's impossible. I trust Robbie 100%."

"What's impossible about it? No woman in the world can refuse Leonardo~ My wife, Liza, is right there in the audience." Conan stood up and pointed to the audience seats. "Liza, am I right?"

At the same time, the audience jeered along, putting Leon in a very disadvantageous situation.

Just when Conan thought victory was in hand, Leon made a shocking move in front of the camera and countless audience members.

He first faced the room full of laughter and said, "Things are very harmonious between Robbie and me in that department, so much so that she often jokingly calls me a 'White Ngga'."

Even on a personal interview show known for pushing boundaries, Leon's answer could be described as explosive. The audience was dumbfounded once again.

Immediately after, he slowly stood up and slightly gyrated his hips in the direction of Conan's wife, Liza.

"Mrs. O'Brien, I don't think anyone can refuse this either, right?"

The whole venue went silent for an instant, then erupted into massive laughter.

Host Conan's face turned green with anger. He glanced at Leon's crotch and almost swore an extremely undignified "F-word" directly.

He remained silent for nearly a full minute, almost causing the program recording to be interrupted.

Despite this, Conan maintained extremely strong professionalism and bit the bullet to finish recording the show.

After the recording, he dragged his wife Liza by the wrist and left the TBS building without looking back.

Just after returning to New York, Leon received a call from Lenny.

Roc Nation highly affirmed Leon's performance on Conan.

A week later, TBS broadcast Leon's episode of Conan. Due to the explosive content, the ratings significantly led past episodes.

Conan turning green from Leon's retorts became a famous scene people relished talking about.

The nickname "White Ngga" spread like wildfire, vaguely showing signs of replacing "Street Jesus."

Even the record sales of Take Me to Church doubled after this episode aired.

On the same day the show aired, a heavyweight figure arrived at the newly expanded Apocalypse label recording studio: David Guetta, who ranked TOP 3 in the Top 100 DJs last year.

Although David constantly complained that the equipment here wasn't professional enough, he still completed the initial backing track for Faded within a day.

This rough version couldn't even be considered a demo; the real demo would have to wait until David returned to his own studio to produce it with his professional equipment and software.

Nevertheless, this rough backing track still shocked everyone.

The captivating drum beats and synthesized audio seemed to transport people into the illusion of a future cyberpunk world.

Leon immediately picked up the phone and called Robbie.

"Honey!" Although they had been dating for a while, Robbie acted very excited every time she received a call from Leon.

Although they didn't have much time to meet, Robbie always spent at least an hour on the phone with Leon at midnight, sometimes sending two sexy selfies as a bonus.

"Baby, I have a surprise for you."

"What surprise?"

"Didn't you say you wanted to be a singer? I just tailored a piece of work for you."

Robbie couldn't believe her ears.

In the entertainment industry, compared to gifting cars, houses, or jewelry...

Nothing was more romantic than writing a song for your girlfriend.
