"It has been decided; you will be exiled from this family."
The black haired boy maintained a blank expression after hearing the news from his father.
It wasn't that he was unaffected, but that he had already expected to hear the news from a while back.
When he was initially reborn into this world, he was thrilled to find out he was born into a noble family.
Although this world lacked many of the modern luxuries of his old world, he was happy, thinking he'd be able to live a lavish and carefree life.
And perhaps he would have been correct if he were to have been born into a lesser noble family.
But unfortunately, he was born into one of the five great magic families of the Key Empire.
A few months ago, he had turned thirteen, meaning he could begin practicing magic.
And in those few months, he had been unable to use magic whatsoever.
Studying Furio's lack of reaction through the red eyes of the Notoria family, his father spoke up once more.
"You might find this outcome to be unfair, but the reality is that you were quite lucky. Many of the elders wished to have you killed and erased from the family's history, stating that someone like you brings far too much shame to Notoria."
His father did not say it, but Furio had a feeling that he was only alive thanks to him pushing for his exile rather than execution.
"From henceforth, you shall be stripped of the right to bear the name of Notoria. Take what belongings you have and leave this place."
Furio had no intention of trying to argue against his father, instead he quietly accepted his words.
"I understand."
Silvio Ars Notoria, as one of the most powerful archmages in the continent, was known to be a terrifying man who had slaughtered thousands on the battlefield.
Luckily for Furio, he did not maintain such cold-bloodedness towards his family.
'Well, by this world's standards, I guess he's alright.'
Being exiled was infinitely better than being executed, after all.
Furio turned away from the crimson haired man and opened the door to leave his office.
His father left him with a few departing words.
"...Even if you are unable to live as a mage, I am sure you will survive, after all, you're the most dangerous of my children."
Furio did not respond, quietly leaving his father's office.
---
Furio lied down on his bed for what would probably be the last time.
"Damn."
He cursed his current situation.
After living such a miserable first life, he had been thrilled at the idea of being able to live as a mage in a fantasy world.
After all, coming from earth, the idea of being able to throw fireballs and thunder sounded awe inspiring.
Indeed, when he first understood his circumstances, he thought he was lucky, being born into a renowned magic family.
Rather than that, it was the unluckiest thing that could've happened to him, being born into such a renowned magic family yet being unable to use magic at all.
The reason him not being able to use magic was so serious was because in a thousand years, every mainline descendant of the Notoria family had been able to use magic.
This was the case amongst all five of the empire's magic families.
Typically, only one in a hundred humans were born with a magic circuit, granting them the ability to use mana to perform magic.
In the Key Empire, this number jumped up to about one in twenty, thanks to the blessing of Solomon.
But the great families were the only ones who were 'guaranteed' the ability to use magic.
So, what would happen if the world found out that a mainline descendant of one of those legendary families was unable to use magic.
All sorts of rumors would come about.
The abilities of Notoria have weakened!
The founder Solomon has turned his back on Notoria!
Notoria is on a decline, didn't you hear that some of them are unable to use magic these days?
Furio fully understood why his family had decided to cast him out, but still, it really sucked for him.
Sitting, up Furio looked towards the mirror in his room.
"It's because of you, isn't it?"
Furio unbuttoned his shirt, revealing a small yet peculiar blue mark placed right above his heart.
With his finger, he applied a small amount of pressure to it.
The mark reacted, and something writhed underneath his chest, travelling through his arm and into his hand.
In his hand, a small worm appeared.
The worm, if it could be called that, had an otherwordly nature.
Its body seemed to be composed of stars, as if an entire galaxy was contained inside of it.
To Furio's words, the worm tilted its head, seeming to ask why Furio was mad at him.
"...You know, when I figured out what you were, I thought you were some great magic beast, but all you do is eat up my magic, huh?"
With his other hand, Furio began pressing on the worm lightly.
"At least you should pay up, right? Give me a blessing, or something, I'm getting kicked out my family goddammit!"
The worm hurriedly dodged around Furio's fingers in a state of panic.
After a minute of this, with a disappointed sigh, Furio stopped bothering the worm and allowed it to re-enter his body.
Plopping back down on the bed, his thoughts began to shift.
"Exile, hm?"
Furio wasn't overly worried about being exiled.
Exile was a scary sounding word, but it was basically like being kicked out of one's house by their parents and being told to get a job.
It's not like he would starve either.
Despite being a bastard child, he was still treated decently.
Over the years, he had received some decent gifts for his birthdays such as a special pouch and clothes with minor enchantments such as warmth and self-cleaning.
Naturally, these gifts were not even close to the level of gifts which his half siblings received, but nevertheless they were good enough that they could be sold for decent value..
Furio was grateful for them, considering in his past life he had nobody to give him any gifts for his birthdays.
Unfortunately, those gifts would probably have to be sold.
He quickly put most of his belongings in his spacial pouch.
Looking at his desk, Furio's eyes lingered on his beginner magic book.
He had been studying it for months, yet he had made no progress, being unable to cast a single spell.
Silently coming to a decision, he placed the book into his pouch.
'If I sold it, I'd probably get a decent amount, right?'
Taking one last look at his room, Furio was ready to leave.
He had no goodbyes to give.
His mother had passed away in childbirth.
His half siblings rarely talked to him, and when they did, were usually curt and distant.
The servants of the estate were polite to him, but they kept their distance, knowing that if they treated him too well the ladies of the household would reprimand them.
Still, he went over to the kitchens and asked if they could pack him some food.
Rumours had been going around for a while that he would be kicked out from the family, so when he came over to them asking for food, they understood immediately what had happened.
The chefs looked at him with some pity, before getting to work.
They quickly prepared about a month's worth of food for him, which could be decently preserved with the special pouch's enchantments.
Technically, they did not have to do anything for him, but wouldn't they be heartless if they refused to make food for a boy who would soon be homeless?
He thanked them and made his way out of the estate.
---
"So, it's true, they really kicked you out, huh?"
A crimson-haired girl the same age as Furio was waiting at the gate to the estate.
"Not being able to use magic in this family, guess that's what I deserve, right?"
The girl did not find his self-depreciation funny, frowning in annoyance.
"It really disgusts me, you know? Ever since we were young, everyone thought you'd be some kind of genius, now you end up like this?"
Her words were correct.
Since Furio was young, he was considered a genius in the family.
Amongst all his siblings, he was the quickest to start walking, start talking, learn basic arithmetic, etcetera.
Obviously, that was because he had over twenty years of experience living as a human in his previous life.
He was no genius in his first life, but if someone saw a toddler being able to do college level calculus, wouldn't they also be shocked?
The title of genius naturally weighed a lot on Silvia, considering she was the closest in age to him.
She was constantly compared to Furio, regularly being asked why a bastard child outperformed her.
"Yeah, it is pretty disgusting, right? Life's just a little fucked up like that."
Silvia gave no response, instead choosing to huff in annoyance.
"Well, are you planning to do anything? If you can't live as a mage, you need to do something with your life, right?"
Her previous annoyance had quickly been replaced with curiosity.
"Well, maybe I'll live as a farmer or something, haven't really thought about it, you know?"
"Farmer? A Notoria, living as a farmer? You know what, you're not even a Notoria anymore, so maybe that'd be fitting."
Silvia gave a scathing remark to Furio whilst chuckling at him.
"So, do you think you're better than me now, hm?"
Furio asked her quietly, with a dark expression on his face.
"That kind of thing won't work on me anymore, in fact, we both know I could kill you right now."
Her statement was correct.
A normal human could never hope to fight a mage in a one on one.
Still, Furio couldn't take it lying down.
He stepped towards her with confidence.
"Hey what do you th- Ah!"
Furio moved his hand to punch her, but stopped his fist the moment it was about to reach her nose.
Unfortunately for Silvia, she tried to step backwards and ended up falling onto the ground.
'Honestly, isn't it too much for her to say that she'd kill me?'
Furio couldn't help but smile at her as she lay on the ground.
She was all talk, not having the guts to actually fire a spell at him.
He crouched down slightly, making eye contact with her once more.
"I don't plan on giving up yet."
No matter what, he refused to exist as a common person in a world of magic.
Silvia stared at him with a dumbfounded expression, mixed with slight embarassment considering she had just planted her ass in the dirt.
The gate guards, hearing the ruckus were running over to Silvia and Furio.
One immediately tended to Silvia, and the other stood in front of Furio.
Staring at Furio for a moment, the guard moved sideways whilst looking at the gate, as if telling him to get out.
With that, Furio, formerly Furio Ars Notoria, left his family estate.

LOG 1 – THE NOTORIA FAMILY & THE NOTARY ART
The Notoria are one of the five magical families of the Key Empire, known as the descendants of one of Solomon's followers, the great mage Notoria. They are known for their crimson red hair and crimson red eyes to match. The family is most known for their immense knowledge over magic, thanks to the Notary Art, a unique magic tied to their bloodline allowing them to gain 'the wisdom of Solomon.'
