Chapter 5 - THE GAME BEGINS

Hello butterflies...

I hope you are all very well...

MEHWISH POV

Raichand's Mansion

"Mom… Dad… where are you?" my excited voice echoed through the mansion as I rushed inside.

"We're here, princess," dad said with a smile. "What happened? Why are you so hyper?"

"The news is that good, Dad," I said, barely able to control my excitement.

Mom looked up at me sharply. "Did you get the job?"

"Yes, Mumma! I got it!" I said proudly. "Do you have any idea how hard I worked for this?"

Dad chuckled. "Princess apko job krne ki kya jrurt h. Krni v h to apne company me krti."

(Princess, why do you even need a job? And if you really wanted one, you could work in our company.)

"No, Papa," I replied firmly. "Wha mujhe koi employee ke trh nhi dekhe ga. Boss ki trh. Meri glti pr koi kuch bole ga v nhi na daante ga."

(There, no one would treat me like a normal employee. Everyone would see me as the boss's daughter. No one would point out my mistakes or scold me.)

"But why do you need to work at all?" he asked. "You have your brothers—and me."

I grinned playfully. "Papa, that's exactly why I didn't tell you before going for the interview. You wouldn't have let me go."

Mom smiled softly at him. "Let her be, Shaurya. She wants to experience working somewhere else. It's just a part-time job."

"Yes, exactly!" I agreed instantly.

Dad sighed in defeat. "Alright, alright. If both mother and daughter are so stubborn, then fine."

"She's already come back tired after a long day," Mom said. "Please give her something to eat."

"Mumma, I'm so hungry," I said dramatically. "Please bring something quickly."

She laughed. "I'll bring it right away. You go freshen up first."

"Okay! I'm going now—I'll be right back," I said cheerfully and ran upstairs.

MISHKA POV

In India

Singhania's Mansion

Everyone was sitting in the hall, chatting casually, when I walked in from court, still in my formal wear. I placed my files aside and looked at them.

"What are you all talking about?" I asked.

"About your marriage," Siyanshi said teasingly.

I froze. "Mumma, what is she saying? You know very well I don't want to get married."

Mumma smiled calmly. "We're not getting you married right now. We're just looking. These things take time."

"Why even look?" I said firmly. "When I want to marry, I'll tell you myself."

"When the time comes, we'll do it," she replied lightly. "For now, it's just fixing."

"Mumma, I already told you—I don't want any marriage drama," I said, irritation creeping into my voice.

"If you like someone, just tell us," she said gently. "We'll arrange it with him."

"There's no one," I replied flatly.

"Oh really?" Siyanshi laughed. "Tell us if you've already found a jiju."

"Stop talking nonsense," I snapped, then looked at Mumma.

"Do you really think someone will like me… or that I'll like someone?"

"Dii, why are you talking like that?" Siyanshi said playfully.

"Apki hogi phle tbhi to mera number aayega."

(It has to be yours first—only then will it be my turn.)

I rolled my eyes. "Tumhe bahut jaldi hai shaadi karne ki. Pehle padhai par dhyaan do."

(You're in too much of a hurry to get married. Focus on your studies first.)

"Kya dii?" she protested. "Last year hi toh hai. Uske baad main apne mann ka karungi."

(What, dii? This is my last year. After that, I'll do whatever I want.)

I grabbed her ear playfully. "And what exactly do you plan to do?"

"Nothing! I was just joking," she laughed nervously.

"You better do something meaningful," I warned.

"You became a criminal lawyer," she said proudly. "I'm not doing all that dangerous stuff."

"Oh really?" I raised an eyebrow. "Then what will you do?"

"I'll do something big," she said confidently.

"That's enough," Mumma interrupted. "Dinner is ready. Go freshen up."

"Yes, I'm starving," I replied.

After freshening up, I had dinner with everyone. Later, in my room, I went through the evidence once more, carefully checking every detail, before locking it safely inside my locker.

Exhaustion finally caught up with me. I lay down on the bed…

And within minutes, I fell asleep.

AUTHOR POV

He was an underground mafia of France—a name that never appeared in records, a shadow that moved unseen.

Whatever he did, he did it so carefully that it stayed hidden from everyone's eyes.

Illegal goods were supplied from India to France under his command, moving through secret routes and false identities.

No matter how big the operation was, it never came into the open.

He worked silently, invisibly—leaving no trace behind.

The bodyguard entered the room quietly, his steps cautious.

"Sir… all the goods coming through transport have been stopped."

Kartik turned sharply, his eyes flashing with anger.

"What?" His voice was low but dangerous. "Who has the courage to interfere in my work?"

The bodyguard lowered his gaze.

"The people in India, from where the goods were being supplied, have been arrested. Someone filed a complaint. The case has reached the court, and an investigation is underway."

Kartik's jaw tightened.

"Who did this?" he asked coldly.

"We're trying to find out, sir."

Kartik took a step forward, his presence suffocating.

"You are still trying?" he said slowly. "How can you be so far behind?"

The bodyguard's voice trembled.

"Sir… we will know very soon."

Kartik turned away, his fingers tapping impatiently against the desk.

"And tell me—who is the lawyer standing against us?"

"There is a woman criminal lawyer handling the case," the bodyguard replied.

A smirk curved Kartik's lips.

"Oh… interesting. A woman?" He let out a short laugh. "She won't be able to ruin anything."

The bodyguard hesitated before speaking again.

"Sir… she is not ordinary. She is one of the most successful lawyers in India. She has never lost a single case."

For a moment, Kartik's smile faded. Then it returned—sharper, more dangerous.

"If she has never lost," he said calmly, "then she will lose this one."

His eyes hardened.

"Find out who filed the complaint. And do it fast."

"Yes, sir," the bodyguard said quickly. "Our men are already working on it."

Kartik stepped closer, his voice dropping to a whisper that carried a threat.

"If you fail… you know what will happen."

The bodyguard nodded, fear clear on his face.

"Yes, sir."

PRITISHA POV

Italy

From miles away, I watched everything- every word, every movement ,through the screen.

The hospital room.

My eyes softened.

"jaan,Everything that happened… I did it for you," I whispered, my voice low and intense.

"How could I let anyone hurt you and walk away alive? That was never possible."

Inside the hospital room, his voice echoed with frustration.

"Did you find out who killed that man?" Tanish asked coldly.

"We're trying, sir," the bodyguard replied.

"But we still haven't been able to trace the person who killed him."

His eyes darkened.

"How is that possible?" he snapped.

"Then why are you all here?"

Watching him like this made my expression soften instantly.

"Don't take this tension," I murmured, as if he could hear me.

"I'm here. I'll take care of everything. You just rest."

Just then, a girl rushed into the hospital room.

She went straight to him and grabbed his hand.

"How are you, Tanish?" she asked anxiously.

"I was so scared when I heard about this. You're fine now, right?"

"I'm fine," he replied flatly.

"And how many times have I told you—don't come so close. Keep some distance."

She stepped back a little… but her fingers still clutched his hand.

"When I heard, I just ran here," she said softly.

My anger flared uncontrollably.

Watching this, something inside me snapped.

She's here again…

He told her to keep her distance. Clearly.

And still—she's holding on to him.

My fingers tightened around the glass in my hand.

Crack.

It shattered in my palm. Sharp shards sliced into my skin, blood seeping out slowly, but I didn't react. I couldn't feel it. All I felt was the fire burning in my chest.

"Only I have the right to touch you," I hissed.

"How dare she?"

"Leave my hand," he said firmly.

"I'm fine."

"Why are you behaving like this?" she asked,

"We're going to get married. I'm your fiancée."

My breath stopped.

Married?

I stared at the screen, fury rising.

He looked at her coldly.

"We're not married yet. When it happens, we'll see."

Her eyes widened.

"Why are you saying this? I love you."

His voice turned sharp.

"You know very well why you want this marriage. And I know too.

So don't force me to say things here."

"That's not true," she said quickly.

"You're misunderstanding."

"I understand perfectly," he replied.

My anger only deepened.

Marriage?

When was this fixed?

Why don't I know anything about it?

"No," I whispered dangerously.

"This will not happen."

I leaned closer to the screen.

"Nish is mine. And he will remain mine."

I turned sharply and called my bodyguard. His face appeared on the screen.

"Find out everything about this girl," I ordered coldly.

"Every single detail. As fast as possible."

"Yes, ma'am," he replied.

"But first, please get your hand bandaged. You're bleeding."

"I'll handle it," I said impatiently.

"Do what I told you first."

He nodded and disappeared.

At that moment, Aayush entered the hospital room.

"Bhai," he said calmly, "you've been discharged. You can go home now."

Tanish nodded.

"Okay. Let's go."

The girl extended her hand to help him stand.

He ignored it.

Instead, he took Aayush's hand and got up.

Soon after, Tanish left and went home.

I spoke on the call, calm and firm.

"Keep following the car that just left the hospital. And keep an eye on that girl as well."

"Yes," the man replied.

"We're right behind them. That girl isn't in Tanish sir's car. She's in another one."

A slow smile curved my lips.

"Oh… nice. That's both good and bad news."

My tone hardened again.

"Stay behind them until they reach the villa. Be careful."

"Yes, ma'am."

The call disconnected.

I leaned back, my gaze fixed on the screen.

Now I'll have to wait, I thought.

Until he reaches his room. Only then will I be able to see him.

I exhaled slowly, impatience and longing mixing inside me.

Who knows how long I'll have to wait…

TANISH POV

The moment I stepped into the house, Maa came rushing toward me. The worry on her face hit harder than the bullet ever did.

"Beta, are you really okay?" she asked anxiously. "Ayush didn't even take me to the hospital."

"I'm fine, Maa," I said calmly. "It wasn't serious. And Ayush did the right thing by not bringing you there. You worry too much."

"You were shot," her voice trembled. "How can I not panic?"

"It just grazed me," I assured her. "Didn't even go deep."

She sighed, but I could tell her fear hadn't eased. "Alright. But until you recover completely, you're not going to the office. Whatever work you have, you'll do it from home."

"Maa, not all work can be done from home," I protested.

"It will be managed," she said firmly. "Ayush will handle things."

Ayush smiled. "Maa, don't worry. Bhai is fine. He's not so weak that one bullet could do anything to him."

I nodded. "See, Maa. He's right."

Finally, she gave in. "Fine. Go to your room and rest. I'll bring food. Ayush, take your brother upstairs carefully."

Just then, Sira walked in.

"Aunty, I'll take him," she said softly. "Ayush is tired too after the hospital."

Then she turned to Ayush. "You go freshen up. I'll take care of him."

Maa smiled warmly. "Yes, beta. You take him. From now on, you'll look after him."

I didn't say anything as Sira supported me and walked me upstairs. But the moment we reached my room, I stopped.

"That's enough," I said coldly. "You can leave now."

She looked surprised. "I'll come inside. We can spend some time together."

"I want to be alone."

"I'll stay. You'll feel better," she insisted.

My patience snapped. "I said leave me alone," I said sharply. "Don't create a scene here. I didn't want any drama. I'm tolerating this only because of Maa."

Her face fell. "Don't be angry. I'm leaving."

I didn't reply. I went inside, locked the door behind me, and collapsed onto the bed. The exhaustion I had been holding back finally took over, dragging me into sleep.

Some time later…

my eyes slowly opened.

I picked up my phone and dialed my bodyguard, my expression dark and cold.

"I want a complete list of all my enemies," I said sharply.

"Find out who fired that bullet… and who killed that man."

"Yes, sir. We're already investigating," he replied.

My jaw tightened.

"You still haven't figured it out? What are you doing—do you even value your lives?"

"Sir, we're focusing on that lead only," he said nervously.

"Not a single piece of evidence has been left unchecked."

My voice dropped, calm but dangerous.

"If I don't have answers within one hour… then all of you should start thinking about what happens next."

"Yes… yes, sir," he replied quickly, fear evident in his voice.
