Chapter 17 - Following the Brat

The morning passed quietly.

After arriving at Seongrim Public High School, Kang Min Woo immediately opened the car door.

Before leaving, he looked back at Fang.

"Don't follow me around."

"Hm."

"It's annoying."

"Hm."

"And park somewhere else."

Fang looked at him.

"Why?"

Min Woo clicked his tongue.

"Because people will think you're my driver."

Fang thought for a moment.

"...I am your driver."

The teenager stared at him.

Then looked genuinely offended.

"No. You're my bodyguard."

"Same thing."

"It's not."

"Hm."

Min Woo suddenly felt a headache.

Talking to this man was impossible.

The teenager slammed the door shut and walked toward the school entrance.

Fang watched him disappear into the crowd.

Then he calmly moved the car to a quieter area near the school.

The engine stopped.

Silence.

For the first time in several days

Fang actually had free time.

No warehouse.

No family responsibilities.

No talking to coworkers.

Nothing.

He sat back in the driver's seat and took out his phone.

Since he had nothing better to do, he began reading information about the Kang family.

Article after article appeared.

Business reports.

Company profiles.

Interviews.

News coverage.

Most of it was boring.

But one detail caught his attention.

Kang Group.

Firearms manufacturing.

Military equipment.

Defense contracts.

Fang looked at the screen for several seconds.

"...That explains it."

The pistol.

The security.

The kidnapping concerns.

Suddenly, everything made more sense.

South Korea had strict firearm regulations.

Yet Chairman Kang casually kept a handgun inside his office drawer.

The man practically manufactured them.

Fang continued reading.

Chairman Kang's reputation was surprisingly good.

No major scandals.

No corruption investigations.

No public controversies.

A rare sight among rich people.

Then Fang searched Kang Min Woo.

Much less information appeared.

Mostly school incidents.

Behavior issues.

Disciplinary warnings.

Nothing unexpected.

The brat was exactly what he looked like.

After that, Fang read about Chairman Kang's wife.

Several charity foundations.

Education programs.

Hospital donations.

Also normal.

After nearly an hour, Fang put his phone away.

He leaned back slightly.

For a moment

He simply watched people passing outside.

Peaceful.

Ordinary.

Strange.

It had been a long time since he experienced this much free time.

...

Some hours later.

The lunch bell rang.

Students immediately began leaving classrooms.

Through the school gates, Fang could see groups heading toward the cafeteria building.

He watched quietly.

School lunch.

Normal.

Then his eyes narrowed slightly.

A few students left the main school building and walked toward the front gate.

Among them was Han Soo Min.

Head lowered.

Expression tired.

Walking silently beside several other students.

Fang watched for a moment.

He always assumed students were not allowed to leave school grounds during lunch.

Apparently, that wasn't true.

Or maybe this school had different rules.

Han Soo Min and the others disappeared around the corner.

Fang looked away again.

Not his concern.

He took another sip of coffee.

Minutes passed.

The school grounds became quieter.

Most students had already entered the cafeteria.

Then someone else appeared.

Kang Min Woo.

The teenager walked casually toward the school gate.

Phone in hand.

Completely unconcerned.

A teacher noticed him.

Yet said nothing.

Min Woo continued walking.

Another teacher saw him.

Still nothing.

No warning.

No questions.

No attempt to stop him.

Fang watched silently.

Either the brat received special treatment.

Or nobody wanted the trouble of dealing with him.

Neither option reflected well on the school.

Min Woo exited the gate.

Instead of heading toward a convenience store or restaurant

He began walking in the same direction Han Soo Min had gone earlier.

Fang looked at the half-finished coffee in his hand.

Then toward the school.

Then toward Min Woo's disappearing figure.

Silence.

A few moments later

Fang opened the car door.

The warm afternoon air greeted him.

He tossed the empty coffee cup into a nearby bin.

Then calmly started walking.

After all

Following the brat around was technically his job.

And for some reason

His instincts told him that lunch might turn out well.

Fang walked calmly behind Kang Min Woo.

Not too close.

Not too far.

The teenager seemed completely unaware.

The streets around the school gradually became quieter.

Min Woo kept walking.

Then suddenly slowed down.

Fang noticed it immediately.

The boy's eyes were fixed ahead.

Fang followed his gaze.

A narrow path behind a small park.

Several students stood there.

Three boys.

Two girls.

And in the middle

Han Soo Min.

Her head remained lowered.

One of the boys shoved her shoulder.

"Look at her."

Another laughed.

"She's doing it again."

A milk carton hit the ground beside her.

The white liquid splashed onto her shoes.

Han Soo Min didn't react.

She simply stood there.

One of the girls folded her arms.

"What?"

"Not going to apologize?"

Silence.

The girl stepped closer.

"We told you yesterday."

"Stop acting like a victim."

Han Soo Min clenched her fists.

"...I didn't do anything."

"What?"

The girl's voice rose immediately.

"I said I didn't do anything."

The boy beside her laughed.

"Still pretending."

Another carton struck her shoulder.

This time, the milk spilled across her uniform.

The group laughed.

Han Soo Min lowered her head further.

Meanwhile,

Min Woo stood several meters away.

Watching.

Expressionless.

Fang glanced at him.

Another push.

Han Soo Min nearly lost balance.

The girl clicked her tongue.

"Seriously."

"You make me sick."

Then something changed.

One of the girls reached into her pocket.

A small cutter appeared.

The atmosphere instantly shifted.

Han soo min scared.

"What are you doing?"

Her eyes remained on Han Soo Min.

A smile slowly appeared.

"Maybe then you'll learn."

Han Soo Min finally looked up.

She stepped back.

The girl stepped forward.

Then grabbed part of her uniform.

At that moment

"What are you trying to do?"

The shout echoed through the alley.

Everyone turned.

Kang Min Woo stood there.

The girl froze.

The boys immediately frowned.

"You again?"

Min Woo walked forward slowly.

His expression wasn't pleasant.

One of the boys laughed.

"Stay out of this."

Another smirked.

"Last time wasn't enough?"

Min Woo didn't answer.

The group exchanged looks.

Then one of them chuckled.

"What?"

"You going to report us again?"

Another added,

"Or call your daddy?"

The group laughed.

One of the boys pointed at him.

"What about your bodyguard?"

"The last one ran away pretty fast."

More laughter.

Min Woo's face darkened.

Still,

He kept walking forward.

"Move."

The girl holding the cutter scoffed.

"Or what?"

Min Woo stopped.

The phone in his hand slowly rose.

"I recorded everything."

Silence.

For a brief second

Nobody spoke.

Then one of the boys burst out laughing.

The others joined him.

"You idiot."

"If you're going to record someone."

He pointed at the phone.

"You're supposed to do it quietly."

Min Woo's expression changed slightly.

The bully suddenly rushed forward.

Fast.

Min Woo reacted instantly.

He stepped aside.

The punch missed.

The bully stumbled.

"Not bad."

Then his smile vanished.

A knife appeared.

The small blade reflected sunlight.

Han Soo Min froze.

Min Woo's eyes widened.

The bully rushed forward again.

This time, aiming lower.

Toward Min Woo's leg.

Everything happened in a second.

Then

A black figure appeared between them.

Boom.

A sharp impact echoed through the alley.

The knife flew away.

The bully's body folded instantly.

He crashed onto the ground several meters away.

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Everyone stared.

Fang stood there calmly.

One hand inside his pocket.

The other is adjusting his tie.

As if nothing had happened.

The remaining students froze.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Fang looked around slowly.

His expression remained completely indifferent.

Then he sighed.

A tired sigh.

"You brats."

Silence.

"Why are you making so much noise?"

Nobody answered.

Fang glanced at the knife lying on the ground.

Then back at them.

"If you don't want to study."

He paused.

His eyes swept across the group.

"...then at least sleep quietly in school."

The alley became completely silent.
