Julian woke slowly, the first thing he noticed was the quiet.
Not the peaceful kind. The kind that felt deliberate, like someone had removed every unnecessary sound from the room. His head throbbed faintly as the last traces of the sedative worked their way out of his system.
He kept his eyes closed for a moment longer, listening.
No footsteps and no voices, just stillness.
Julian opened his eyes.
The room was small and plain. No windows. A single table across from the chair he was sitting in. His wrists were not restrained, which surprised him more than anything else.
They had not tied him down.
That meant they believed he could not escape.
Julian leaned back slightly in the chair and let out a quiet breath.
"So this is the part where someone asks questions."
The door opened and two men entered.
Julian recognized one of them immediately.
The wolf and the other man was the hunter who had injected the sedative.
The hunter closed the door behind them.
