The whisper faded, but the presence didn't.
Aarav stood frozen in the darkness, knife cleanched so tightly his fingers hurt.
His mind raced-hallucination....stress....fear - anything except the truth clawing at him.
"You're not real ",.he said a loud.
The light flickered back on.
The room was empty.
His phone lay on the table, screen glowing.
Incoming call-Dr.R.Mehra
Aarav stomach drapped.Dr.mehra has been his therapist.
Had been-until three months ago.until the sessions stopped suddenly.until the doctor disappointed.
With shaking hands,Aarav answered.
"You sound disappointed",Dr. Mehra said softly.
"Did you expect a monster?"
"You are supposed to be gone ,"Aarav whispered a gentle laugh."Gone? No,I simply stopped being visible ."
Aarav's eyes darted around the room ," why are you doing this?"
"Because,"Dr.Mehra replied calmly."you came to me to forget. And i came to understand."
The recorder on the table clicked on again .
"It was an accident ",Aarav's voice said ."I did not mean to-"
"Stop it!"Aarav shouted .
Dr.Mehra sighed,almost disappointed."You see,Aarav the mind does not delete memories . It hides them .I only.....reorganized yours",
Aarav felt dizzy."you are messing with my head."
"No",the doctor corrected ."I removed the lies you told yourself."
A pause,
Then quitely:
"Do you remember the night on the bridge?"
Aarav's knees buckled.flashes surged -rain,headlights,a scream swallowed by the river below.
"You said therapy helped, " Dr.Mehra continued.
"But you never asked who it helped more ."
"The call ended"
On the wall opposite .Aarav's something new appeared.
Aarav realized then -this was not about fear .
It was about control.
And the villain didn,t need weapons.
He already owned Aarav's mind.
