Chapter 21 - 21 The Witness Rebellion

That night, the city was quiet. Streetlights formed long lines along the alleys, illuminating weary faces. But Aira did not feel tired. Every step she took was filled with purpose. She was no longer a passive witness.

Farid walked beside her, occasionally glancing back, ensuring there was no clear surveillance. Remy followed behind, eyes glowing in the dark—a mixture of fear and unrefined courage.

"We can't wait any longer," Aira whispered. "If the Watchers realize we're planning, the contract could be voided at any moment."

Farid nodded. "I know. But you… you've changed. I think… we can do something they don't expect."

They reached an old, half-collapsed building, yet structurally intact. The large wooden door opened effortlessly as Aira pushed it. The air was thick with dust, metal, and residual electricity. Inside, they saw the same symbol from Aira's metal card—the cracked circle—glowing softly on the wall.

"Is this… their mark?" Remy's voice trembled.

Aira nodded slowly. "It's not just a mark. It's a link. They can know where we are, who is acting. But… they don't know we've started planning on our own."

They sat on the floor, plotting their next move.

"We need a diversion," Aira said. "They'll focus on the new witnesses. We can use that."

Farid leaned forward. "But the risk is huge. If they know we interfere…"

Aira looked into Farid's eyes. "They could take our lives, yes. But we've lost empathy. There is no fear left. We can act."

Remy swallowed. "I'm still scared…"

Aira gave a faint smile. "That's the feeling they want you to lose. You're still human. Use it."

The clock ticked slowly. A message appeared on Aira's phone.

"Anomalies increasing. Latest surveillance activated."

Aira lifted her head, calm. "They're coming," she whispered. "But not to win. We are making the move now."

They stepped out into the dark alley, moving silently. Every step, every second, Aira calculated—one misstep and the Watchers would react immediately. But this time, the control was no longer entirely theirs.

In the shadows, they saw another witness—a young woman, standing alone, looking confused. Aira recognized her. Not a coincidence. "New witness," Aira whispered. "We need to unite them. The more witnesses, the stronger we are."

Aira looked at the night sky, cold and clear. The feeling that had died inside her was slowly returning—the intention to act, to break free from the Watchers' control.

That night, they made a decisive choice: the rebellion begins.

Not just defying orders—but claiming the right to control their own fate.

And for the first time, Aira felt a true power—the power of choice.
