Sleep did little to quiet my mind. I woke before sunrise, staring at the pale ceiling above my bed while the conversation with Agnes replayed over and over again.
There are people born... different. Your mother laughed, and flowers bloomed where they shouldn't. The world is larger than most people believe.
None of it made sense yet every word had settled somewhere deep inside me. I had just asked a simple question and she confused me more. I rubbed my temples and let out a slow breath.
"I'm getting tired of the riddles. How can I find out who I am?"
The room, of course, offered no answer.
I pushed myself out of bed and crossed to the basin, splashing cool water over my face. When I looked up into the mirror, the same woman stared back. The same silver eyes and dark hair. Nothing had changed.
So why did I suddenly feel as though I no longer knew myself ?
