The afternoon sun hung low above as I knelt beside one of the herb beds outside the healer's quarters.
The earthy scent of crushed mint clung to my fingertips while I carefully separated fresh leaves from their stems. Carina had disappeared inside to prepare medicine for one of the injured warriors, leaving me to sort through the herbs gathered that morning.
It was peaceful work and simple. For once, my thoughts weren't racing in a hundred different directions.
Instead, they kept wandering back to yesterday. The walk with Hades,the laughter, the picnic beneath the old oak tree. To Hades smiling in a way that very few people ever saw. A smile found my lips before I realised it.
"So, that's where your mind is." Carina's amused voice startled me.
I looked up to find her leaning against the doorway with folded arms.
"I was thinking."
"You were smiling."
"I can do both." She laughed.
