Hades's voice was quiet, but there was no mistaking the exhaustion beneath it. I looked up at him.
We were still standing among the ruins of the chamber, surrounded by broken stone, scattered weapons, and the wolves that had come to our aid. Samael was gone. None of us had found a body, but after the destruction and the flames, everyone believed the King was dead.
Hades stood in front of me, one hand pressed against his injured shoulder. Blood had soaked through the fabric of his shirt, and his face was pale.
I looked at the warriors who had fought beside us. Ronan stood with his sword lowered, while the others waited for Hades to give another command.
"They came with you," I whispered.
"Get everyone out of here. We return to Iron Claw immediately." Ronan nodded.
"And the Royal soldiers?"
"Disarm them. Anyone who surrenders will be taken prisoner. Nobody is to be executed without my orders." His gaze hardened.
"But if anyone tries to attack my you, defend yourselves."
