Chapter 29 - Assassin Elf: No Help Needed

The magical light flickered. Bella's eyelids fluttered open, her green eyes glinting like sharpened emeralds, precise and deadly. The binds that had held her for so long fell apart in an instant, dissolving into faint motes of magic that drifted lazily in the night air.

"…Finally," she muttered, stretching her fingers as if she had merely been napping. "This is getting tedious."

Vario's wings shuddered in surprise. Crimson eyes widened as he stepped forward, shadowed aura flaring instinctively around him. "B-Bella…?" His voice faltered, a rare crack threading through the growl that normally made worlds tremble.

Nyx blinked, backing up several steps. "…Wait. Did she just… wake up now?"

Yuwen's tail twitched sharply. "…She is awake," she said, voice low, her magic sparking along the edges of her fingers.

The villain, who had been hovering arrogantly over Bella moments before, froze mid-step. He laughed nervously. "You…! I captured the assassin! She is mine to use as leverage—"

Bella yawned, cutting him off with the calm authority of someone who had faced death more times than most could count. "Leverage? How boring."

Before anyone could react, Bella launched herself forward. Her movements were a blur, faster than the eye could follow. The tip of her dagger glowed faintly as she drew it in a sweeping arc. Even the night air seemed to bend around her strike.

The villain barely managed to raise a hand in a futile defense. The blade connected with a sharp, resonant ting that reverberated down the street, leaving no room for counterspell.

Then—he was gone.

Not a scream. Not a flare of magic. Just nothing. A faint echo of energy lingered for a heartbeat before dissipating into the cool night air. The rift had vanished, and the street returned to the eerie stillness of an abandoned city block.

Vario's jaw dropped, wings folding slightly as his shadows recoiled in awe. "I… she…" His words trailed into silence, utterly incapable of describing what he had just witnessed.

Nyx staggered backward, gripping her Beybroll like a lifeline. "Ohhhhhh… okay. Yep. Definitely outclassed. We don't even need to try! She did all the work!"

Yuwen tilted her head, her tail swishing in measured approval. "Impressive," she said quietly, magical energy still crackling faintly along her fingertips. "That was… surgical precision."

Bella straightened, brushing imaginary dust off her sleeve, expression calm and unreadable. Her emerald eyes swept over the group—the Demon King, the mage, and the chaotic human hybrid Beybroll master. "I don't need your help," she said, voice low but firm. "I never did."

Vario's crimson eyes softened—not with fear, but with awe. "…You are terrifying," he admitted quietly, voice almost reverent.

Nyx's grin stretched wide, though still tinged with disbelief. "…And… also awesome. Like, ridiculously awesome. How do you even move like that?"

Bella's gaze returned to the empty street. She crouched slightly, rolling her shoulders as if stretching before a sparring session. "They're gone," she said simply. "And I woke up in time to fix it. That's all there is to it."

The convenience store street, which had moments ago been a battlefield, now lay quiet except for the hum of flickering neon lights. Cans and packets lay scattered from the villain's brief attempt at intimidation. Cup noodles teetered precariously on shelves, and the faint smell of burned magic lingered in the air.

Vario stepped closer, wings folding into a tight, protective shadow around him. "Your timing… was impeccable," he said. "…I suppose I underestimated you."

Bella smirked faintly, eyes glinting. "I don't do teamwork unless I want to. And I didn't want to."

Nyx leaned against the nearest freezer, still holding her Beybroll, laughter bubbling up uncontrollably. "Wow. Okay. Yeah. Night shift just got a lot more interesting. And terrifying. But mostly interesting."

Yuwen's tail flicked, a subtle sign of approval. "She has always been efficient… lethal, even without assistance. You would do well to remember this," she said softly, almost to herself.

Bella yawned again, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Next time… maybe I'll help with the night shift. But only if there's coffee. And if nobody tries to invent more distractions."

Vario's aura shifted, a quiet rumble of power still coiling around him. "Very well. But remember… I will always notice when you move without my knowledge."

Nyx clapped her hands together, nearly bouncing in excitement. "Perfect. Chaos! Demon kings! Assassins doing solo rescues! Let's clean up and celebrate like we survived a war!"

Bella's eyes scanned the street one last time, calm and calculating. Even though the villain was gone, and the rift had vanished, she remained alert, ready for any threat. For her, victory was quiet, clean, and precise.

And everyone—Demon King, mage, chaotic human, and tired convenience store manager—knew it. Bella didn't need anyone.

Not them. Not the world. Not even a battlefield to prove it.

She was more than enough.
