Chapter 135 - Chapter: Breakroom Confessions

The chaos of the store had finally calmed, at least for a moment. Vario slumped on the breakroom couch, still pale from his repeated fainting incidents. The smell of instant noodles and leftover Piatos lingered in the air, and the faint buzz of the fluorescent lights was the only sound.

Nyx leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, watching him with that familiar mixture of amusement and concern. "You really are a mess," she said softly, though there was no judgment in her tone.

"I… I can't help it," Vario muttered, rubbing his temples. "Everything—every woman, every customer—it's… too much."

Nyx stepped closer, sitting down beside him. Her eyes softened as she studied his tense posture. "You don't have to face it alone, you know," she said gently. "I'm here."

Vario's heart skipped a beat. He wanted to believe her, wanted to let the tension melt away, but he still felt the weight of the past weeks—the soup betrayals, Yuwen, the fainting incidents. Yet looking at Nyx now, seeing her patience and care, something inside him shifted.

She reached out, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. The touch sent a shiver down his spine. "You're not just surviving chaos," she whispered. "You're surviving everything, and you're doing it with me right here."

Vario's chest tightened, and for a moment, words failed him. Then, slowly, almost instinctively, he leaned closer. Nyx tilted her head, and their eyes locked. Time seemed to pause. The hum of the lights, the faint scent of the breakroom—they faded into the background.

Before he could second-guess himself, Vario leaned in, and Nyx met him halfway. Their lips touched in a soft, hesitant kiss at first, testing, reassuring, then growing more certain.

Vario's hands instinctively reached to hold her, and Nyx's fingers curled around his wrist. The tension of the past weeks—the fear, the fainting, the chaos of the store—all seemed to dissolve in that single moment.

When they finally pulled away, Vario rested his forehead against hers, breathing heavily. "Th-thank you," he whispered.

Nyx smiled, a little teasing, a little tender. "No, thank me. You've been through hell, and you're still standing."

For the first time in what felt like ages, Vario felt something beyond fear or exhaustion—something warm, something steady. And in that quiet breakroom, amidst leftover snacks and flickering fluorescent lights, he realized he wasn't alone anymore.

Bella, standing by the door, cleared her throat loudly. "Finally. About time you two stopped making everyone else faint from awkward tension."

Vario groaned, hiding his face in Nyx's shoulder. "Shut up."

Nyx laughed softly, resting her head beside his. "Let them wait. For now… just us."

And for a fleeting, precious moment, the chaos of the store didn't matter.

It was just them.
