I stood there in that stupid suit, the one that still smelled like Daniel's mom's perfume from all the hugging earlier, staring at the fancy wooden table where the marriage certificate sat like it was some holy relic instead of the biggest pile of bullshit I'd ever signed in my life. The officiant guy, some slick-haired dude who'd probably done a hundred of these, slid the pen over with this big fake smile and said, "Just here and here, gentlemen, and you'll be officially hitched under both traditions." Daniel grabbed it first, scribbled his name like he was trying to stab the paper to death, then shoved it at me so hard our fingers brushed and we both yanked back like we'd touched a hot stove.
