I noticed the first sign on Tuesday.
I came home from work and found my shoes moved---lined up naetly by the door. I don't do that . I kicked them off like usual,laughed it off,and told my self I was tired.
Then food started disappearing .
Not missing ----replaced. Half a sandwich back in the fridge. Milk slightly lower than i remembered. The TV volume set to a number I never use.
I live alone.
One night, l woke up at 2:17 a.m to the sound of breathing.
Not mine.
I was, slow,careful, coming from the hallway. I stayed perfectly still, heart hammering, staring at my bed room door. The handle turned/ just enough to test it then stopped.
In the morning, i found a note on the kitchen counter.
Written on my handwriting.
You really should lock your door at night .
That's when I checked the attic.
There was a mattress up there. Warm. A phone charger pluged into an outlet i din't know existed.
And a calender on the wall.
Every day was crossed out.
Except today....
