Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Choosing Bulbasaur

"Bulbasaur has a very gentle temperament and is extremely suitable as a starter Pokémon for beginner trainers."

"And its potential is also excellent. In the future, it can Mega Evolve or Gigantamax, and it's very suitable to train as a main team member."

Seeing how much the guest liked Bulbasaur, Ren smiled as he continued explaining its advantages.

"If you really want it, I can also give you a small discount."

"I want it! I want it!"

Under Liam's twitching expression, Ava answered without the slightest hesitation.

She didn't really understand what Mega Evolution or Gigantamax meant, but she could tell one thing clearly—

Bulbasaur was very strong.

And more importantly, its appearance and personality made her ridiculously happy.

"In that case," Ren said with a smile, "the total comes to 200,000 yuan. Will you be paying by credit card?"

"Sis, think this through!"

Liam's eyelids twitched again when he heard the price, and he emphasized every word carefully.

"It's not that we can't afford it—but if Dad finds out you spent two hundred thousand yuan just to buy a… pet…"

A flicker of hesitation passed across Ava's pretty face. But when she looked at Bulbasaur gazing at her with its big, watery eyes, she finally made up her mind.

"There's nothing to be afraid of," Ava gritted her teeth. "If anything happens, I'll take responsibility myself!"

She really loved cute little animals—let alone something as adorable as Bulbasaur.

Liam shrugged helplessly and then looked at Bulbasaur with interest.

He'd already warned her. If she insisted on charging straight into a wall, that was her choice.

"Boss, swipe the card!"

Ava took out her bank card and handed it to Ren.

"Alright, please wait a moment."

Ren carefully passed Bulbasaur into Ava's arms and gave Diancie a brief instruction.

"Woohoo~ my little cutie!"

Holding Bulbasaur carefully, Ava happily rubbed her cheek against its face.

"Bulba~ saur~"

Bulbasaur let out soft, happy cries and clearly enjoyed the affection.

"It's really cute… Are those buds on its back?"

Liam couldn't help reaching out and gently pinching Bulbasaur's cheek. Influenced by his sister, he liked animals too.

Still, it was amazing.

A frog? A toad?

How could something like that grow up to be this cute? And what exactly were those things on its back?

"That little frog is my baby from now on," Ava said proudly, lifting Bulbasaur slightly. "No matter what, even if Dad beats me, I'm raising it!"

Ren walked over with a few items in his arms and explained with a smile.

"Strictly speaking, the things on Bulbasaur's back are seeds, and they're closely tied to its growth."

"As Bulbasaur grows, the seeds will gradually develop, eventually blooming into a flower."

"So in the future, attracting bees and butterflies is also one of Bulbasaur's… special 'traits.'"

Ren joked lightly, clearly in a good mood after completing another sale.

"So amazing…"

Ava was stunned. She turned Bulbasaur around and carefully examined the seeds on its back.

A plant growing on a living creature—and it could even bloom?

That was insane.

"This is an Energy Cube," Ren continued, placing two boxes down. "It's extremely nutritious Pokémon food. Every customer receives two boxes for free."

"This is the Beginner Trainer's Manual. I recommend reading it carefully."

"And this is the Pokédex."

Ren held up the illustrated book.

"If you aim it at a Pokémon like this, then tap here—"

Ding—

"Bulbasaur.

Grass / Poison-type.

Seed Pokémon.

Ability: Overgrow.

Moves: Tackle, Growl, Vine Whip.

A seed was planted on its back at birth. The seed grows along with its body."

The mechanical voice of the Pokédex echoed in the shop.

"That's incredible!" Ava exclaimed.

Even Liam looked genuinely surprised.

"In this way," Ren said, "the Pokédex will record information about every Pokémon you encounter. Completing it is very rewarding for trainers."

"It's a pity you arrived a little late. Earlier customers would've let you record their Pokémon—but it's not a big issue."

A completely empty Pokédex was, in its own way, pretty exciting.

"I want the Pokédex!" Ava said immediately. "And give me ten more boxes of Energy Cubes."

"Thank you for your patronage."

After calculating the total, Ren smiled and bowed slightly.

People who could afford Pokémon rarely hesitated over Pokédexes—they were just too fun to use.

Meanwhile, Liam flipped through the beginner's manual with growing interest.

"Attributes… abilities… moves…"

This wasn't a game.

These were real, living creatures.

"Oh, right," Ren said as if remembering something. "Ava, would you like me to add you to the group?"

"Group?" Ava blinked.

"Yes. It's a chat group formed by customers who've bought Pokémon here. If you don't understand something, you can ask anytime."

"And Pokémon grow through battles. You can also arrange sparring matches and discussions in the group."

Ren smiled calmly.

The group had only been created that afternoon—it was Emma's idea. After that, Ren had been made the group owner and had added Lucas and Jason.

Including himself, there were only five people so far.

"Yay! Boss, add me!"

Ava's eyes lit up instantly.

Other Pokémon trainers… were they the people from the battle videos?

"Once I add you, I'll pull you into the group."

Ren added Ava as a contact.

Group Owner Ren invited 'LittleBirdIrene'

to the group chat.

Ava glanced at the member count.

Six people total.

Messages instantly popped up:

From Girl to Woman:

"Wow—finally a newcomer! Congrats to the boss on another sale~"

From Childhood to Adulthood:

"New member!"

This Lady Is a Campus Goddess:

"Welcome~ Judging by the name, she's a little sister! The newbie is adorable!"

Actually a Male Fox:

"Welcome! Show us your Pokémon~"

Larvitar Is Not a Foodie:

"Welcome! Let's battle sometime—wait, Larvitar is chewing my new table again! Damn it!"

"…"

Ava blinked as she read through the messages.

Everyone seemed… really enthusiastic.

And just like that, she had officially stepped into a completely new world.
