Chapter 2 - Part 2: The Second Kira's Fall

---

Misa was humming.

Not loudly—just under her breath—as she swung her legs from the couch in the holding room.

"This is fine.

Light said it would be fine."

The door didn't open when it was supposed to.

That was the first wrong thing.

The second was the way the air changed—heavy, sharp—like something bad had already happened somewhere else and was on its way to her.

Misa tilted her head.

Usually by now, someone's yelling.

Footsteps. Fast. Too many.

The door opened.

Not gently.

Two task force members stepped in. Not smiling. Not avoiding her eyes.

"Misa Amane," one said. "Please stand up."

Her stomach dropped.

Please stand up?

They don't say that unless—

Misa: "Did something happen to Light?"

No answer.

That was the third wrong thing.

She stood anyway, hands fidgeting with the hem of her skirt.

It's okay. Rem promised.

Rem said she wouldn't let anything happen.

They escorted her down the hallway.

No cameras.

No teasing.

No gentle lies.

Just silence.

This feels like before.

Like the first time.

They stopped outside a familiar room.

The interrogation room.

Misa's breath quickened.

No. Not again. I did everything right. I gave up the notebook. I forgot. I was innocent.

The door opened.

L wasn't there.

That alone told her everything.

Instead—Watari's voice came through the speaker.

"Misa Amane," he said calmly, "you are being placed under temporary arrest."

Her heart slammed.

Misa: "Why?! I didn't do anything!"

I didn't. I swear I didn't. I don't even remember—

"New information has come to light," Watari continued. "Regarding Kira."

Misa's mind raced.

Light?

No—he said he'd handle it. He always handles it.

Her fingers trembled.

"Your cooperation will be appreciated."

The door closed.

The lock clicked.

Misa slid down the wall, hugging her knees.

"Rem…?"

No voice answered.

No warmth.

No presence.

Just emptiness.

She's gone.

The realization hit harder than any accusation.

She promised she'd protect me.

She wouldn't leave unless—

Misa's eyes widened.

Unless Light was in danger.

A cold truth crept in, slow and merciless.

"If she acted…

If she killed for me…"

Misa pressed her hands over her ears.

"No," she whispered. "No no no."

"If Rem did that… then L should be—"

Footsteps outside.

A pause.

Watari's voice again—quieter this time.

"Misa Amane," he said, "Light Yagami has been detained."

Her world shattered.

Detained?

Not dead?

Her breath came in short gasps.

Then Rem—

She sacrificed herself… for nothing.

Tears streamed down her face, silent and helpless.

Light lied to me...

For the first time—not as Kira's supporter, not as a pawn—

But as a girl who had lost everything—

Misa understood.

And somewhere far away, as the machinery of justice began to move again,

Misa Amane sat alone in a locked room,

Finally realizing that love had been the most dangerous weapon of all.
