The Impossible Light
Standing on the elevated concrete overpass of the polluted highway, the young man had just raised his glowing, runic broadsword to declare war on the Sovereign Government.
But before he could even take a single step, the entire northern horizon ignited.
It wasn't just a flash; it was a blinding, apocalyptic dome of pure, unadulterated white light that completely eclipsed the toxic, smog-choked sun. Even from hundreds of miles away, the sheer intensity of the illumination forced the heavy knight, the elven archer, and the cloaked mage to violently shield their eyes, screaming in terror as the unnatural brightness washed over them.
A few seconds later, the shockwave hit.
A massive, roaring wall of displaced air slammed into the concrete overpass, rattling the heavy freight trucks below and nearly knocking the elven archer off her feet. The wind was unnaturally hot, carrying the faint, terrifying scent of burning ozone and vaporized earth.
The young man didn't shield his eyes. He just stood there, his pristine silver-blue cape whipping violently in the superheated wind, staring at the towering, overlapping mushroom clouds rising into the stratosphere.
His heart violently dropped into his stomach. A cold, paralyzing sweat broke out across his forehead.
Wait a minute... he thought, his breath hitching in absolute, mind-numbing disbelief. What is that energy? That isn't a spell. That specific blinding flash, that thermal output, the shape of those clouds... No. No, it can't be.
His grip on his broadsword trembled. His mind desperately tried to reject the horrifying reality of what he was seeing.
How?! his internal monologue screamed. How did they even manage to build something like that in this world?! The infrastructure required, the uranium enrichment, the sheer physics of it... it is completely impossible! But that blast... I know exactly what that is!
He was completely trapped in a violent dilemma. He had prepared himself to fight corrupt kings, dark mages, and corporate dictators. He had absolutely not prepared himself to fight whoever had just unleashed weapons of mass destruction on a medieval fantasy world.
The cloaked mage stumbled forward, clutching her wooden staff in pure terror, her entire body shaking. "Master! What was that?! The mana in the north... it has been entirely erased from existence! There is a complete void!"
The young man snapped out of his shock, his jaw clenching with absolute, terrified resolve.
"Listen to me, my companions," the young man commanded, his voice tight but echoing with its usual undeniable authority. "I am dropping our previous objective. We are not attacking the city right now. We are going directly to the site where that massive flash just originated."
"Are you insane, Master?!" the heavy knight panicked, his heavy iron plates clattering as he frantically looked at the sky. "That was the wrath of the gods! We cannot walk into a divine judgment!"
"That was not the gods," the young man replied grimly, raising his free hand.
A brilliant, complex array of spatial magical glyphs instantly materialized and began spinning rapidly around the four of them.
"Brace yourselves," he ordered.
Fwoosh!
In a thunderous clap of displaced air, the Hero and his party vanished from the concrete highway, teleporting directly into the heart of the apocalyptic wasteland.
The Apocalyptic Arrival
The spatial tunnel shattered, dropping the young warrior and his party directly onto the cooled, glowing glass of the massive crater. The air was surprisingly breathable—completely sterilized of radiation—but the sheer scale of the geographical erasure around them was incomprehensible.
The elven archer instantly fell to her knees, her long ears drooping as she wept openly at the absolute devastation. "The forest... the mountains... they are simply gone," she sobbed, clutching her chest. "The earth here is completely dead. There is not a single trace of life remaining."
The cloaked mage was trembling so violently she could barely hold her wooden staff, while the heavy knight took a terrified step backward, his iron boots clanking loudly against the smooth, vitrified glass.
But the young warrior didn't look at the melted landscape. His eyes immediately locked onto the absolute epicenter of the apocalypse, bracing himself to face whatever dark, world-ending god had survived the blast.
Instead, through the clearing dust, he saw four humans.
The Existential Crisis
The young warrior's breath completely hitched in his throat. His mind aggressively short-circuited as he stared at them. They weren't wearing iron armor. They weren't wearing mystic robes.
They were wearing expensive, custom-tailored modern business suits.
His eyes widened in sheer, paralyzing disbelief, the glowing runic broadsword trembling in his grip. He recognized the crisp, pressed collars of their dress shirts. He recognized the polished leather oxfords standing on the radioactive glass. He saw one of the men casually adjusting a pristine silk tie.
The sheer, impossible familiarity of his past world hit him like a physical blow to the chest. Wait a minute... his internal monologue screamed in absolute confusion. Are those... corporate suits?! Here?! How is that even physically possible?!
But then, a second, far more horrifying realization washed over him. The absolute absurdity of his own shock clicked into place.
Hold on, he thought, his stomach violently dropping. If they have the massive industrial infrastructure required to enrich uranium, build silos, and simultaneously detonate many intercontinental ballistic missiles... then weaving a premium silk tie and a tailored blazer is literally the easiest fucking part. The technology isn't the anomaly here. The anomaly is that they brought ruthless, capitalist boardroom culture into a magical wasteland!
And to make the surreal nightmare even worse, one of them was currently on his knees in the dirt, throwing an absolute temper tantrum.
The Corporate Mourning
"How could you do that to him, Malesh?!" Kniya wailed, aggressively squeezing a fake tear out of his eye as he dramatically clutched a handful of gray ash. "Why did you have to use the fucking nukes on him?! We could have merged! We could have drafted a highly lucrative synergy deal! He could have been the flagship brand ambassador for our dark fantasy subsidiary! Think of the market demographics, Malesh! The Demon Lord merchandise alone would have carried our fourth quarter!"
Malesh stood a few feet away, his hands casually shoved into his pockets, the crisp white sleeves of his dress shirt rolled up to the elbows. He stared down at his Managing Director with an expression of absolute, soul-crushing boredom. He didn't look like a man who had just vaporized a mythical army; he looked like a weary executive waiting for a delayed train, completely dead inside to Kniya's dramatics.
"Kniya, shut your mouth, you are giving me a massive headache," Malesh sighed, sounding thoroughly exhausted. "He was a highly arrogant prick, so I permanently liquidated his assets. Now get up. You are literally ruining a two-thousand-credit tailored suit in that ash."
"How can you be so brutal and heartless, Malesh?!" Kniya cried out, aggressively popping a fresh piece of mint gum into his mouth while pretending to sob. "You are completely ruthless! You have zero respect for the narrative structure of my life! I wanted a legendary nemesis! I wanted an epic final battle! And you gave me a flat sheet of glass!"
"I gave us a blank canvas for prime real estate development," Malesh retorted stubbornly, completely unfazed. "Do you have any idea how much money we can make building a massive, premium parking lot here? Or a strip mall? We don't need a nemesis, Kniya. We need a return on investment. Stop whining like a child."
Filoska and Salesh just stood in the background, aggressively rubbing their temples.
"Fifty intercontinental warheads, Malesh!" Salesh panicked, pulling at his own hair. "Do you have any idea how many millions of credits you just blew up because of your fragile ego?! We are going to have to audit the entire quarter just to hide this massive expense from the shareholders! I am going to have to fake a natural disaster on the balance sheets!"
"I cannot believe we are standing in the literal epicenter of a nuclear holocaust, and I am being forced to listen to you idiots argue about the defense budget," Filoska muttered, glaring fiercely at her ruined high heels. "My shoes are completely destroyed, Malesh. You are personally reimbursing me for these."
The Connectivity Crisis
Kniya slowly lowered the empty weapon, looking at Filoska like she had completely lost her mind.
"Filoska, who exactly are you planning to speak to?" Kniya asked, aggressively popping his mint gum. "Do you honestly think there is a premium customer service desk hidden behind that giant oak tree? We are standing in the middle of a completely unregulated, primitive ecosystem. There is no regional manager here, there is no HR department, and there is certainly no complaint box for you to drop your grievances into. We literally just watched a giant flying lizard get knocked out by a biological weapon, and your first executive decision is to ask to speak to the person in charge?"
"Well, I am definitely checking my corporate phone!" Salesh panicked, aggressively patting down his casual jacket pockets. He yanked out his incredibly expensive, dial-pad corporate phone and stared at the tiny, completely blank monochromatic screen in absolute horror. "Zero bars! There is absolutely no network connection! How am I supposed to get in contact with my Girlfriend?! If I don't call her by tonight, she is going to absolutely ruin my life!"
Malesh slowly turned around and stared at Salesh with supreme, unfiltered corporate disappointment.
"Salesh, I have a genuine question for you. Are you a total idiot, or just a half one? Please, just tell me in a pleasant way," Malesh sighed, heavily pinching the bridge of his nose in sheer, unadulterated executive exhaustion. "If you can clearly see with your own two eyes that this entire environment is completely unfamiliar to our world, why the fuck are you bringing out an analog dial-pad phone to dial a fucking number? Does that make any sense to you at all? Are you seriously acting like that one genetically incompetent, absolute loser side character present in every single cliché novel who violently refuses to accept he got reincarnated? Put that useless piece of plastic away before I physically shove it down your throat."
