Before anyone mentioned forgiveness, Forest Hidden's elders established what they had the authority to change. The oldest elder stood inside the academy boundary with two others beside him. A narrow table had been placed on academy ground, close enough that Cassandra could read the records from the road without crossing the line that still rejected her.
Rangar waited near the elders. Martin stood outside with Cassandra, while Alexandra, Katherine, Elisebeth, and Rias occupied the space between the two groups. Mireva and the older Sairren who had named Cassandra Chainbreaker had come from the Belfry to provide their statements.
Nobody sat. The Light Tree did not manifest. Its roots ran beneath the academy road, but the decision belonged to the people who had imposed the academy sanction. The oldest elder opened the review.
