Chapter 18 - A Chorus of Curses

Midway up Longjing Mountain, a white BMW was steadily climbing the winding road.

In the passenger seat, a woman sat bored out of her mind, lazily admiring the scenery outside the window.

She had been to Longjing Mountain countless times already. The view along the way no longer held much appeal for her.

But then, a figure outside suddenly caught her attention.

"Hubby, Xuebai, quick—look outside! Someone's actually riding a public bike up the mountain!"

She called out to her husband in the driver's seat and to Xue Suibai, who was sitting in the back.

As Lu Yang's desk mate, Xue Suibai's family lived not far from Longjing Mountain, so they came here often.

"Hey, Suibai, look—he's wearing your high school uniform. That's one of your classmates, right?" The woman recognized the uniform immediately.

It belonged to Congao High School.

"Mm." Xue Suibai glanced out through the tinted window and instantly spotted the student in uniform pedaling a little yellow bike.

"Want me to roll down the window and say hi to your classmate?" The overly enthusiastic woman reached toward the window controls.

"No, Mom!" Socially anxious, Xue Suibai hurriedly stopped her.

She knew that if she didn't act fast, her ultra-social mother would actually do it.

"Tsk. Look at him—riding a public bike up the mountain late at night for exercise. And then look at you. You don't get any exercise every day."

The woman gave up on greeting him and instead turned to nagging her daughter.

"She's right for once," the man driving chimed in. "You're classmates. You should learn from him—exercise more, you hear?"

At that moment, Xue Suibai knew the smartest move was to shut up. She could only glare resentfully at the boy outside the window.

Meanwhile, Lu Yang, pedaling uphill on the public bike, had no idea he was being stared at from inside a BMW.

He was pouring every ounce of strength into his legs.

Riding a public bike uphill was no joke. The thing was heavy and clunky—far from ideal.

Luckily, he had just completed a physique-related mission. Otherwise, he honestly wasn't sure he could've made it up.

After finally reaching the mountaintop, he checked his phone—

Five yuan deducted for leaving the service area.

Bang!

Lu Yang gritted his teeth, bouncing the bike over the rough pavement in frustration.

'I finally climb a mountain for once, and you screw me over this badly?!'

After resting at the summit for a while and regaining both stamina and composure, Lu Yang prepared to begin.

From the moment he started descending, he never stopped pedaling. Sitting firmly on the bike, his speed steadily increased.

10 km/h.

20 km/h.

30 km/h.

Very quickly, he reached the speed required for the first mission.

Without slowing at all, his legs kept spinning faster and faster as the pedals grew lighter.

35 km/h.

40 km/h.

A public bike was still a bike—far easier to ride than a wheelchair.

Lu Yang leaned into a curve and spotted a white BMW ahead, though he hadn't yet closed the distance.

'Forty isn't enough.'

Behind the mask, his gaze sharpened with determination.

Mountain winds whipped against his school uniform, as if blowing away all fear of speed.

He lowered his body, reducing wind resistance as much as possible, legs spinning so fast they left afterimages.

41 km/h.

42 km/h.

43 km/h…

The speed climbed steadily toward 50 km/h.

Inside the white BMW—

As the driver, the man noticed Lu Yang in the rearview mirror.

"Huh, what a coincidence. We ran into him on the way up—and now again on the way down."

Xue Suibai and her mother also noticed the bike behind them.

Xue Suibai's heart skipped slightly. A bad feeling crept in.

Sure enough, her mother started muttering again.

"Look at you, and then look at him—honestly—"

She got halfway through before her husband cut her off.

"Wait. He seems… too fast."

The man stared intently at the rearview mirror.

From behind, he could clearly see the public bike closing the distance.

That's impossible.

He glanced at the speedometer—50 km/h. On a winding mountain road, that was already fairly fast.

He even rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things.

But the truth remained—

The public bike was still getting closer. It was practically about to catch up.

"Seriously? How fast is he going?" the woman exclaimed after seeing it clearly.

"At least fifty. Probably more," the man said in awe.

Is that really a public bike?

At first, Xue Suibai had to turn around to look.

But soon… she didn't even need to.

Because the bike had already caught up—

Right beside her window.

Watching a public bike race neck-and-neck with her family's car felt utterly surreal.

Yet the masked boy outside the window was undeniably real.

His uniform billowed in the wind. His eyes were focused and resolute. His black hair flew freely behind him.

It felt like if she rolled the window down, she'd be hit by a wave of raw adrenaline.

"There's a sharp turn ahead—he's not slowing down?!" The driver's voice jumped an octave as he gripped the steering wheel.

Ahead was a near 90-degree bend.

He lightly tapped the brakes, slowing the BMW.

But just as he assumed the bike would slow too—

The boy didn't brake.

Instead, he pedaled even harder.

"Holy sh*t!"

The man finally lost it.

"Bro—are you seriously pedaling through that turn?!"

That was exactly what Lu Yang did.

Seizing the moment as the BMW slowed for the curve, he exploded forward—

Completing a clean, insane overtake.

Inside the car, the family of three watched as the public bike leaned hard into the curve and flew past.

All three spoke in unison:

"Holy sh*t!"

Only after the bike vanished into the next bend did they snap back to reality.

Inside the car, Xue Suibai asked quietly:

"So… Mom. Do you still want me to learn from others?"

The woman forced a dry laugh, clearly embarrassed.

"Let's… not learn that much. I still want you to stay healthy."

Xue Suibai didn't reply.

Instead, her mind replayed the image of the boy riding away.

For some reason… that silhouette felt familiar.

Lu Yang only knew that he had overtaken a white BMW. He had no idea his desk mate was inside.

At this moment, his focus was absolute—every ounce of attention locked onto the downhill road beneath him.

His speed exceeded 50 km/h.

His legs barely felt resistance anymore—

Yet he still pedaled relentlessly, squeezing out every last bit of speed.

Car after car fell behind him.

Gasps echoed one after another.

"Holy sh*t!"

By now—

It was practically a mountain-wide chorus of 'holy sh*t.'
