The sirens above grew louder.
Even through layers of concrete and stone, the distant wail echoed inside the underground passage. Thomas remained motionless before the three tunnels.
His cloudy eyes moved from one entrance to another. Left. Center. Right. Each looked identical. Each disappeared into darkness.
No markings. No signs. Only three silent choices. Everyone waited.
No one dared interrupt him.
Finally Magnus stepped closer.
"Thomas?"
The old engineer closed his eyes again.
"I know this place."
His voice sounded almost like a whisper.
"I designed part of it." Samuel watched him carefully. 'You don't have to force it."
Thomas nodded faintly. "I'm not forcing it."
"I'm listening."Hayes frowned.
"Listening to what?"
Thomas tapped the side of his head.
"Memory." Silence followed.
Sebastian looked down at the leather case tucked beneath Magnus's arm.
Everything now depended on an old man's memory. It wasn't exactly comforting.
