Chapter 32 - Chapter 31: The Black Market's Last Stand.

The Osaka underground market still reeked of burnt Aether and fear even after the fight ended.

Shattered crates smoked faintly. Broken monster cores rolled across the floor like dark marbles. The surviving merchants and buyers had fled into the tunnels—leaving only echoes of panicked footsteps.

Haruto stood over the unconscious S-rank, chains still wrapped around the man's wrists and ankles like black iron cuffs. The corrupted hunter's hood had fallen back, revealing a scarred face, purple veins faintly pulsing under pale skin.

Miya knelt beside one of the broken crates, examining a cracked black orb—the last intact Nox artifact. She crushed it under her heel.

"No more of these," she said quietly.

Yuki scanned the perimeter—ice mist trailing from his hands.

"Tunnel exits are clear. No reinforcements. But word will spread fast. We need to move."

Haruto nodded.

He lifted the bound S-rank by the chains—effortless, like lifting a sack.

"Ren's extraction point is two blocks east. Old warehouse with the red door."

They moved.

The tunnels twisted—narrow, damp, lit only by flickering emergency strips. Echoes bounced off the walls: dripping water, distant train rumbles, their own footsteps.

Halfway, the S-rank stirred.

Groaned.

Eyes opened—purple flickering.

"You… can't stop what's coming."

Haruto didn't slow.

"What's coming?"

The man laughed—wet, broken.

"The Sovereign isn't dead. Just… sleeping. The anchors were chains. You broke them. Now he wakes free."

Miya's sword flashed—tip resting against the man's throat.

"Explain."

The S-rank grinned through bloodied teeth.

"The divine voice lied. The bargain wasn't to seal Nox. It was to contain him. Inside you. The mark was the lock. You chose Guardian… you broke the lock."

Haruto's grip tightened.

The chains creaked.

The man coughed.

"Check your System. You'll see."

Haruto opened his status—golden panel flickering in the dark.

**[System Alert: Residual Nox Essence – Reclassified.]**

**[Essence no longer dormant. Integrated. Sovereign Core awakening: 1%. Control threshold: 99% Guardian alignment.]**

**[Warning: Full awakening in progress. Estimated time: 72–96 hours.]**

Haruto's eyes narrowed.

Yuki cursed under his breath.

"He's inside you. Not outside."

Miya's voice was steel.

"Then we cut him out."

The S-rank laughed again.

"You can't. He is you now. The Guardian path just… delayed the inevitable."

Haruto slammed the man against the wall—chains tightening.

"Tell me how to stop it."

The S-rank's grin faded.

"You don't. You embrace it. Or you die fighting. Either way… the Sovereign rises."

Haruto stared into the man's purple eyes.

Then he let go.

The chains dragged the S-rank forward.

"We'll see."

They reached the red door.

Ren's team waited—four A-ranks in plain clothes, no questions. They took the prisoner without a word.

Ren stood at the back.

He looked at Haruto.

"You heard?"

Haruto nodded.

Ren exhaled.

"The Guild archives have records of similar cases. Divine bargains. Soul integration. Most end badly."

Haruto's voice was calm.

"This one won't."

Ren studied him.

"You're certain."

Haruto looked at Miya and Yuki.

"I'm not alone."

Ren nodded—slow, respectful.

"Then we'll prepare. Medical team. Containment protocols. Whatever you need."

Haruto shook his head.

"No containment. If it wakes… I handle it."

Ren didn't argue.

"Call when you're ready."

The SUV drove off.

The trio stood in the alley.

Miya broke the silence.

"72 hours. Maybe less."

Yuki cracked his knuckles.

"Then we train. We prepare. And if he wakes…"

Haruto finished.

"We put him back to sleep."

He looked at the sky—stars faint above the city glow.

The Sovereign wasn't gone.

He was inside.

Waiting.

But Haruto wasn't afraid.

He had chosen Guardian.

And he would protect that choice.

With everything he had.

They walked back toward the station.

The night was young.

The fight was just beginning.
