Chapter 89 - Break Through The Hunt.

The night did not break.

It snapped.

The moment Eryx moved

Everything accelerated beyond restraint.

THE MARK

Eryx vanished first.

Not fast.

Not sudden.

Just… gone.

Deadcalm.

The world bent around him.

The hunters reacted instantly but that alone told Riven everything he needed to know.

They weren't surprised.

They were ready.

"Riven LEFT!"

Soren's voice cut sharply across the battlefield.

Riven didn't think.

He shifted

Moonstep Drift

His body slipped sideways as a blade carved through the space his throat had just occupied.

He reappeared behind the attacker

Lunar Fang Sever

This time, he didn't hesitate.

His blades struck with compressed precision

The armor cracked.

Split.

The hunter staggered.

Riven followed through

A second cut

Clean.

The hunter dropped.

No time to confirm.

No time to breathe.

"MOVE!" Eryx's voice thundered.

FORMATION SHIFT

The group didn't scatter.

They condensed.

Instinctively.

Roran took point massive frame anchoring the front as he drove forward like a battering ram.

Soren slipped to the rear intercepting anything that tried to flank.

Lyra and Marlis stayed central support, stabilization, protection.

Nyss stepped beside Riven.

Not behind.

Never behind.

Astra moved last

But her eyes were already calculating something deeper.

Eryx reappeared ahead of them.

"…We break forward."

Riven nodded once.

"…We break through."

THE WALL OF HUNTERS

The hunters closed ranks.

Tighter now.

More aggressive.

They had learned enough.

The testing phase was over.

Now

They moved to end it.

The leader raised his hand.

And the formation shifted.

Blades aligned.

Angles perfected.

A kill net.

Riven saw it instantly.

"…They're trying to box us."

Eryx's expression sharpened.

"…Then we don't let them finish."

"Roran!" Eryx called.

"Break it."

Roran didn't hesitate.

He roared

And charged.

The ground cracked beneath his weight as he slammed into the front line.

Impact exploded outward

Two hunters were sent flying

But the rest held.

Barely.

"NOW!" Eryx snapped.

Lyra raised both hands

Energy surged outward

A burst of force slammed into the weakened formation, destabilizing their footing

Nyss followed

Silver wolves manifested

Smaller, faster, more controlled

They didn't attack blindly

They targeted.

Ankles.

Wrists.

Balance points.

The formation fractured.

Just enough.

Soren moved next.

Fast.

Silent.

Deadly.

He slipped through the cracks created by Roran and Nyss

Striking pressure points

Forcing reactions

Creating hesitation.

Not kills.

Openings.

Riven stepped forward.

This was his moment.

RIVEN: DOMINION ENGAGED

His core pulsed.

Calm.

Aligned.

Lunar Dominion Field expanded

Not explosively

But precisely.

The air shifted.

Timing broke.

Enemy coordination faltered by fractions.

And in a battle like this

Fractions decided everything.

Riven moved.

Moonstep Drift

He blurred through the battlefield

Afterimages flickering like phantom wolves.

Predator Sync Perception

He didn't react.

He preempted.

A hunter turned

Too late.

Riven's blade struck

Lunar Fang Sever

Clean.

Another moved to counter

Riven was already gone.

He appeared at the next weak point

Struck again.

Not reckless.

Not wild.

Controlled.

Surgical.

THE LEADER INTERVENES

"…Enough."

The leader stepped in.

His aura surged outward

He cut through Nyss's wolves in a single motion

Advanced straight toward Riven

Blinding speed

Riven reacted

But this time

The leader adapted.

Fast.

Steel collided

Riven was pushed back

Boots carving into earth.

"…You're improving," the leader said.

"…But you're still learning."

He lunged again

Faster.

Sharper.

Riven blocked

But felt it.

Pressure.

Real pressure.

Behind him

Nyss stepped forward

"Riven duck!"

He dropped instantly

Silver energy surged overhead

Slamming into the leader

Forcing him back a step.

One step.

That was all they needed.

Eryx moved.

Not fast.

Not flashy.

Just

Decisive.

He appeared directly in front of the leader

Golden aura flaring

"Move."

It wasn't a command.

It was a fact.

The leader smiled slightly.

"…Now this is"

Eryx's fist connected.

Mid-sentence.

CRACK.

The impact shattered the ground beneath them.

The leader was launched

Not defeated

But displaced.

And that was enough.

THE ESCAPE WINDOW

"GO!" Eryx barked.

The group surged forward.

No hesitation.

No looking back.

They broke through the fractured line

Past the hunters

Into the carriage.

Eryx mounts his steed .

And they all ride for the open fields.

But

It wasn't over.

Behind them

Movement.

Fast.

Relentless.

"They're still coming!" Soren called.

Of course they were.

Hunters didn't quit.

They adapted.

And pursued.

Astra opened the carriage doors

Suddenly..

"…Keep moving."

Riven turned.

"…What are you doing?"

She didn't answer immediately.

She climbed on to the roof of the carriage.

Her staff struck the roof.

Hard.

"I said keep moving."

Eryx's eyes narrowed.

"…Whatever you want to do, do it quickly."

She smirked faintly.

"That's all I need to hear."

The others didn't argue.

They braced themselves.

Riven hesitated

Just for a second

Then Nyss grabbed his arm.

"…Trust her."

That was enough.

He held on tight.

Behind them

The hunters closed in.

The leader recovered.

Fast.

"…Don't let them escape."

They surged forward

Into Astra's range.

She exhaled slowly.

Then

"Binding Array: Collapse."

The ground lit up.

Runes.

Hundreds.

Hidden beneath the grass.

Triggered all at once.

Chains of light erupted upward

Wrapping

Binding

Restricting movement

The hunters reacted

Cutting

Breaking

But it slowed them.

Just enough.

Astra's eyes sharpened.

"…And now…"

She slammed her staff down again.

"Graviton Sink."

The ground beneath the hunters

Collapsed inward.

Not a hole

A pull.

Like gravity had doubled.

Then tripled.

Movement slowed.

Bodies dragged.

Balance broken.

Even the leader

Staggered.

Just slightly.

Astra exhaled sharply.

"…That's your window."

Ride faster

She turned

And jumped back in.

They rode fast.

Faster than before.

Catching up with Eryx steed.

Eryx glanced back once.

Then nodded.

"…Good work."

Astra smirked faintly.

"Obviously."

THE AFTERMATH

They didn't stop ridding.

Not immediately.

Not until the pressure faded.

Not until the presence behind them

Disappeared.

Only then

Did they slow.

Then stop.

Breathing heavy.

But alive.

Roran let a sigh of relief.

"…That… wasn't normal."

Soren wiped blood from his lip.

"…Those weren't soldiers."

Nyss looked back toward the darkness.

"…They knew what they were doing."

Riven stood still.

Silent.

Thinking.

Eryx stepped forward.

"…They'll report."

A pause.

"Which means…"

Riven finished it.

"…We're not just being chased anymore."

Silence.

Then Astra spoke.

"…We're being studied."

That landed.

Heavy.

Riven looked ahead.

Toward the unseen distance.

Toward the Third.

"…Good."

Everyone looked at him.

His eyes were steady.

Focused.

"…Let them watch."

A pause.

"…Next time…"

His core pulsed.

Low.

Controlled.

"…we won't be running."

Eryx smirked slightly.

"…That's the spirit."

The night swallowed the last of their words.

And far behind them

In the darkness

The hunt…

Wasn't over.
