I secured the knife and sledgehammer in my trouser back pocket and covered it properly with my shirt and walked towards the mansion.
"Mummy!" Jason's high-pitched voice filled my ears. I felt my eyes sting with tears. I have never been this eager to hear his voice.
I fell to my knees and threw my hands open allowing the tears to flow freely as he ran into my arms. I ran my arms all over him checking for injuries and finding none. I took a deep breath when I could not find a single injury on his body.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" I asked just to be sure. He shook his head and smiled.
"I'm fine. Daisy's fine." He rubbed my back in a circular motion. The same way I did to him each time he was sick.
"We're fine, seriously. No one was hurt." He wiped the tears I didn't know were rolling down my face. He hugged me tightly.
I pulled away from him slowly intending to ask him about his sister when her little voice filled my ears.
"Mummy, is this man our father?"
