Farewell Before the Auction
After breakfast, she smiled and asked, "I have to go to the branch office for some business. Are you going to wait for me here for a few days or...?"
Bianca De Dominicis said it lightly, almost teasingly, but Julian D'Aurelius heard the note hidden beneath it.
Stay.
Just a little longer.
The morning sun spilled through the tall windows of Starlight Tower's dining hall, touching her red hair with copper fire.
Julian looked at her a moment longer than necessary.
Then shook his head.
"I'll head back today. I have some things to handle these days."
His tone was calm, but his golden eyes carried weight.
Bianca's lashes flickered.
A trace of disappointment crossed her face before she tucked it away behind a small smile.
Of course she knew why.
She had heard enough of his inner thoughts to know he was moving for something important.
Still… knowing did not stop the faint ache.
She nodded.
