Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Asael glanced down at the dagger dripping red, "Your father put a bounty on your head." He revealed easily - it didn't matter, he could kill the Fiend at his leisure.

Kath'tan's face twitched, the only sign that showed how affected he was by the news he received. "Attacking an unarmed Demon," He spat, derisive. "How typical."

"Don't worry," Asael drawled, pulling out a shadow rapier from thin air. "I'll make sure to warn before I strike." He said, striking without doing any of what he said he would do.

Dulce stepped in front of the blade again, finding it harder and harder to stay upright. "G-Gentlemen, can we please talk this out?"

Asael frowned now. He wasn't in the habit of killing for free, especially pathetic humans. "Do you crave death?" He had to ask, astounded.

Kath'tan glanced down at the foolish Vampire who had lost all the color he had only just regained, his anger at his pathetic visage snapping him out of the clawing pain of learning his father had arranged to have him killed. "There's nothing to talk about with an assassin sent to kill me."

Dulce didn't give up, "W-Well, that can at least wait until I have undone your summons..." He forced out, his throat constricting. He dropped to his knees, gasping for breath.

Asael thought that human was a strange creature, but it wasn't entirely a senseless suggestion. He crouched to watch the human rapidly go pale, slender finger grasping at his neck as he struggled to breathe. "You would send me off without bothering to inform me of why I was summoned?"

"He wants a Hellhound as a pet." Kath'tan revealed without mincing words.

Asael paused, the ridiculousness of it all reflected in his pale gray eyes. He rose to his feet, ignoring the human crumpled on the ground, at death's door. "How did this human manage to keep you for so long?" He directed at the Fiend noble.

Kath'tan's expression shuttered at that, "You have been following me."

"That doesn't answer my question..."

Dulce lifted a hand, the summoning circle a short distance away starting to glow. He truly didn't want either of the Demons standing over him, dedicated to trying until he got his Hellhound.

Asael stepped on his hand to stop the ritual from being undone, stepping harder than he intended to and breaking those delicate fingers. He lifted his feet with a strange expression, an apology so completely alien to him that he didn't consider it.

"Don't you want me to undo the poison in your system?" He was forced to focus on the interesting creature. He would rather not be sent back to the Hells, not until he had eliminated his target.

Dulce was completely robbed of speech, his eyes half closed, black veins started from his pale neck and spread to his face. With the stab wounds he had gotten and the purple blood staining his hair and face, he painted an incredibly pathetic picture.

Kath'tan didn't intervene, curious to see if Shadow Demon poison would be strong enough to kill the foolish Vampire. His wounds had healed, but his blood still stained his hands, his purple eyes blazed as he stared at his abhorred blood. He couldn't remember the last time he bled - he was always loath to, so he made sure to fight unscathed.

There was no place to direct the anger roiling in his middle, it threatened to consume him.

Asael also stood by, watching the light slowly bleed out of the human's eyes. He had to be a powerful mage to survive for so long with such dire injuries, but he had made no attempts to save himself, repeatedly stepping in front of the attacks meant for another.

He glanced at Lord Kath'tan, whose attention was equally fixed on the dying human - he still couldn't explain how this foolish creature had managed to keep him bound for so long. Had he been promised something valuable? Then why was he making no attempt to save him?

Long, endless minutes crawled by, both Demons watching the figure on the ground lie still, the black veins pulsing now. Yet he was still clinging to life, neither of them was sent back to the Hells.

"He can't die." Kath'tan finally spoke up, losing interest in watching the foolish Vampire suffer any longer.

Interest sparked in Asael's flat eyes, "True immortality?" He questioned, crouching to administer the antidote.

Kath'tan didn't respond - such a strange party they were. The wind was still blowing, dark clouds threatening to spill their contents,

Red eyes stared up at Asael as a glass vial of silvery liquid was tipped past his lips, they were glazed over but still very much alive.

"A damned Vampire," Asael said with disgust, like his summoner had turned into a giant bug before his very eyes.

Dulce coughed viciously when the antidote went past his throat, rolling over to throw up black blood. He wiped his lips and scrambled to his feet, recovering almost instantly. "I apologize for that," He said with a nervous smile.

Asael got over his disgust quickly, interested in the far more striking details about this creature. "You have achieved true immortality?"

Dulce walked over to gather up his ritual items when he was reassured that the Demons wouldn't be back at each other's throats. "I suppose so. But I didn't achieve it, I have always been this way." He explained, carefully putting away the candles and the little chalk left over.

The obsidian and salt had all been used up by the ritual, so he would have to find more to attempt another ritual. He sighed as he picked up his silver dagger, if only he hadn't been so impatient.

Asael stared blankly at the Vampire, his words sounding completely alien. He looked up, it was daytime now, yet the Vampire was walking around without difficulty. No matter how strong a Vampire became, the sun remained their fatal enemy.

After Dulce had gathered up all his ritual items, he turned to both Demons. "I can release you from your summons now, but if you insist on staying, you cannot try to kill Kath'tan."
