Chapter 87 - Chapter 75: The Harmony of Three

A blur of pale green darted across the training grounds.

Tiny feet pattered lightly over obsidian stone as the Eldergloom nymph hurried toward Alistar with surprising speed, flowers blooming in her wake where her mana brushed the ground.

Kaelen pointed immediately. "Your forest child escaped."

"I can see that!"

The nymph reached the stone barrier and climbed up beside Alistar without hesitation.

The little dragon glanced sideways at her.

Still dignified.

Still slightly insulted.

Then—

The nymph reached out and tapped him once on the back.

Softly.

Alistar blinked.

Turned.

And noticed something else approaching behind her.

A low metallic hum rolled softly through the chamber.

Kaelen's eyes widened instantly.

"…Wait."

Something inside the small reinforced pouch attached to his belt shifted violently.

Then—

A silver blur launched itself out into open air.

The compact mythril construct unfolded mid-leap with rapid clicking precision, segmented plates rotating outward as blue resonance lines flared alive across its frame.

By the time it hit the ground—

It had fully assembled.

Not full-sized.

Not yet.

But large enough now to stand nearly waist-high with sleek mythril limbs and glowing blue eyes fixed directly ahead.

Toward Alistar.

Toward the nymph.

"Oh, come on," Kaelen groaned.

The golem ignored him completely as it ran.

Its metal feet struck the obsidian floor in rapid rhythmic taps as it sprinted after the nymph with surprising enthusiasm for something theoretically designed for combat support.

Lara stared. "…It can do that?"

"It's apparently making independent choices today," Kaelen said weakly.

"That feels concerning."

"I'm deeply concerned."

Ahead, the nymph had already climbed onto the low stone barrier beside Alistar. Tiny flowers bloomed lazily around her feet as she settled cross-legged without hesitation.

Alistar still carried himself with wounded dignity—

But only barely now.

The dragon glanced once toward the approaching construct.

Then toward the nymph.

Another silent exchange passed between them.

The golem reached the barrier just as Alistar lowered himself into position.

Its glowing eyes flicked between the two magical beings rapidly.

Assessing.

Calculating.

Then, almost awkwardly—

The construct copied them.

It climbed onto the barrier.

Sat down beside them.

And folded its legs into a meditation posture with mechanical precision.

Kaelen stared in disbelief.

"…My golem just joined a dragon and a forest spirit meditation circle."

Anna was openly laughing again now.

"I think he wants friends."

"He's a mythril combat construct!"

The golem's blue core pulsed once in apparent disagreement.

The nymph smiled brightly.

Alistar gave one approving chirp.

Then all three bonds closed their eyes.

And the meditation began.

Golden resonance.

Living green mana.

Blue harmonic construct-energy.

Three entirely incompatible systems—

Aligning anyway.

The ley lines beneath the training grounds answered instantly.

A low hum rolled through the chamber as mana currents bent inward toward the three seated bonds like gravity itself had shifted.

The obsidian floors lit beneath them.

Not violently.

Beautifully.

Spiraling resonance patterns bloomed outward in layered circles beneath the barrier.

The nearest sparring match stopped completely.

One instructor lowered his casting focus mid-drill.

Several Obsidian Circle members simply stared openly now.

Because this wasn't random mana interaction anymore.

It was synchronization.

Natural.

Instinctive.

Impossible.

The training grounds had almost completely stopped.

Sparring rings fell silent one by one as more Obsidian Circle members turned toward the phenomenon unfolding near the stone barrier. Spell formations dimmed mid-cast. Training constructs slowed and powered down as their operators lost concentration watching the impossible synchronization happening before them.

Even the instructors had stopped speaking.

And Kael Draven—

Kael Draven was no longer pretending mild amusement.

His pale eyes remained fixed on the three meditating bonds with open concentration now, the silver resonance lines beneath the obsidian floors reflecting faintly across his expression.

Because this wasn't normal harmonic alignment.

It wasn't even advanced resonance theory.

The ley lines themselves were responding.

The chamber hummed softly around them.

The mythril golem's blue harmonic core spiraled upward in slow arcs while the nymph's living mana threaded through it like roots winding around earth. Golden resonance from Alistar adjusted continuously between the two frequencies, stabilizing the resonance with machine-like precision.

Three different energies.

Three entirely different origins.

Acting like they belonged together.

One of the nearby instructors finally spoke first.

"…What exactly are they doing?"

No one answered immediately.

Because honestly—

No one seemed entirely sure.

Then Anna blinked once.

"Oh," she said quietly.

Kael glanced toward her instantly.

Anna looked back toward the three bonds sitting peacefully together atop the barrier.

"…They're meditating."

Silence.

Then—

Sharp gasps broke somewhere deeper in the training grounds.

Several members looked at each other immediately.

"…Meditation?" someone repeated quietly.

Another voice followed almost instantly.

"Wait—"

"No way."

"The military technique?"

The murmurs spread rapidly now.

Not confused.

Recognizing.

A taller cadet near one of the sparring rings lowered his weapon entirely. "That's impossible. That regimen hasn't even been publicly distributed yet."

"It's only being implemented through the army and elite divisions," another member said quietly.

"Not even most academy instructors have access to it yet."

Kaelen blinked slowly.

"…I'm sorry," he said, looking between the suddenly tense Circle members, "what exactly are all of you talking about?"

Kael answered this time.

Without looking away from the three bonds.

"A classified meditation method," he said calmly.

The words landed heavily.

"Recently distributed through portions of the imperial military structure after producing… unusual advancement results."

Kaelen's eyes widened slightly.

Lara looked equally confused.

"The thing Brom Ironhart developed?" one instructor asked quietly from farther back.

At that—

Several people visibly straightened.

Even Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

The name carried weight here.

Not just because Brom Ironhart was one of the empire's Twelve Pillars—

But because everyone in the Obsidian Circle knew what his revised cultivation regimen had been doing inside the military.

The results.

The advancement rates.

The stability improvements.

The sheer impossibility of the numbers.

Kael finally looked away from the meditating bonds.

His pale gaze shifted slowly toward Anna.

Then Kaelen.

Then Lara.

"Do the three of you know this meditation technique?"

Silence.

No one answered.

They didn't need to.

Because Kaelen's expression had already betrayed him completely.

Lara looked halfway between guilt and confusion.

And Anna—

Anna had the decency to look mildly concerned.

Kael watched them for another moment.

Then slowly—

A smirk appeared.

Not large.

Not dramatic.

But deeply dangerous.

Anna recognized it instantly.

"Oh no," she said quietly.

Kaelen looked between them nervously. "…Why did she say 'oh no' like that?"

Kael turned smoothly toward the rest of the training grounds.

Toward the dozens of Obsidian Circle members now openly watching.

His voice carried effortlessly across the chamber.

"Cadets," he said calmly.

The room straightened almost instantly.

Kael gestured lightly toward Anna, Lara, and Kaelen.

"It would appear we have acquired three very special instructors today."

Three horrified first-years froze simultaneously.

"No," Kaelen said immediately.

Kael ignored him completely.

"Effective immediately," he continued smoothly, "all active drills are suspended."

A wave of surprise rolled through the grounds.

Then:

"You will all be learning the harmonic meditation regimen."

Silence.

Then absolute chaos.

"What?!"

"Seriously?"

"The classified technique?"

"Today?!"

Several advanced cadets looked outright stunned.

One instructor actually laughed once in disbelief.

Meanwhile—

Anna, Lara, and Kaelen all slowly turned toward each other with the exact same expression.

Pure realization.

There was no escape from this.

Kaelen pointed weakly toward himself. "…I would like the Circle officially informed that I am dramatically unqualified for this responsibility."

"You accepted the invitation," Kael replied.

"That should not legally count!"

Lara looked overwhelmed. "I don't even fully understand the technique myself!"

"Excellent," Kael said smoothly. "You'll teach honestly instead of academically."

"That's somehow worse," Lara whispered.

Anna rubbed both hands across her face.

Around them, Obsidian Circle members were already beginning to gather toward the central training rings with rapidly growing interest. Several looked excited. Others skeptical. A few older members carried the cautious expressions of mages who understood exactly how significant this technique could become if the rumors surrounding it were true.

And across the chamber—

The three bonds continued meditating peacefully.

Alistar's golden resonance pulsed steadily.

The nymph's flowers bloomed softly around the stone barrier.

The mythril golem's blue harmonic core hummed in perfect synchronization with the ley currents beneath the chamber.

Kaelen pointed accusingly toward the three meditating bonds.

"…This is your fault somehow."

The mythril golem's blue core pulsed once.

The nymph smiled brightly.

And Alistar–

Alistar slowly opened one golden eye.

The little dragon turned his head just enough to look directly at Kaelen.

Then, with absolute shamelessness—

He gave him a look.

Not confusion.

Not innocence.

A very clear serves you right.

Anna immediately covered her mouth again, shoulders shaking with suppressed laughter.

Lara outright snorted this time.

Kaelen stared at the dragon in betrayal.

"…You're still mad about the jacket."

Alistar chirped once.

Short.

Sharp.

Definitely yes.

Then the tiny dragon lifted his head with renewed dignity, folded his wings neatly against his sides, and closed his eyes once more.

The meditation resumed instantly.

Golden resonance spiraled outward again in smooth harmonic waves.

The nymph followed immediately, flowers blooming softly around the barrier as her living mana intertwined with Alistar's resonance like winding vines.

And the mythril golem fully committed now adjusted its seated posture by approximately two degrees before re-entering synchronized meditation.

The ley lines beneath the chamber pulsed harder.

Several nearby Obsidian Circle cadets instinctively straightened at the sensation.

Because the resonance filling the training grounds felt…

Stable.

Balanced.

Alive.

Kaelen looked personally exhausted already.

Kael Draven, meanwhile, looked entirely too pleased with the situation unfolding around him.

"Good," he said calmly, clasping his hands behind his back. "Now that our demonstration assistants have settled…"

His pale gaze shifted toward the gathered cadets.

"Everyone sit."

The entire training grounds moved at once.

Dozens of Obsidian Circle members lowered themselves into seated positions around the central sparring ring, some skeptical, others openly curious. A few instructors remained standing near the edges, arms crossed as they observed with sharp attention.

Kaelen looked around in horror at the sheer number of people now expecting competence from them.

"…Anna," he whispered urgently, "I need you to understand that I became a mage specifically to avoid public speaking."

"You're doing great so far."

"I'm actively dying."

Lara looked barely more prepared.

The nymph, sensing her stress again, caused three tiny flowers to bloom directly from Lara's sleeve.

Kaelen pointed immediately. "Your emotional support gardening is escalating."

"I KNOW."

Anna tried to compose herself enough to help.

"Okay," she said, stepping forward slightly. "The technique isn't actually that complicated once you understand the idea behind it."

Dozens of eyes locked onto her instantly.

Anna immediately regretted speaking first.

Kael noticed.

And, unhelpfully, smiled faintly.

"Continue, Miss Crestwood."

Anna shot him a look that promised future retaliation.

Then exhaled slowly.
