The labyrinth gates loomed under a bruised morning sky, iron teeth glinting in the weak light. Alex, Kaelith, and Mara moved through them like predators returning to familiar hunting grounds. Yesterday's upgrades felt good, wyvern-leather armor hugging muscle, blood-iron greataxe heavy on Kaelith's back, the new daggers at Alex's hips whispering against leather. Mara's chain shirt shimmered faintly under her green silk tunic, staff slung across her shoulders like a promise of green light when things turned bloody.
They descended fast, floors blurring past. First through third were child's play now; goblins scattered at the sight of Kaelith's gleaming axe. Fourth-floor skeletons crumbled under combined fury, Alex's precise cuts, Kaelith's savage swings, Mara's healing pulses keeping them whole. By the time they reached the tenth-floor bridge again, the minotaur's corpse had already dissolved into faint sparks, leaving only dark stains on stone.
Kaelith sniffed the air, ears swiveling. "Same scent. Blood and old iron. But something else is also her… deeper. Hidden."
Alex pulled the small iron key from his belt pouch. The runes along its shaft pulsed once, crimson, when he held it toward the far wall beyond the boss gate. A faint click echoed from the stone.
"There," Mara breathed, manic smile flickering. "Behind the pillar."
They crossed the bridge, boots echoing, until they reached a section of wall that looked no different from the rest: rough-hewn stone, lichen clinging in damp patches. Alex pressed the key against a nearly invisible seam at waist height. The runes flared bright, crimson light bleeding into the stone like spilled wine.
A low grinding sound filled the chamber. The wall slid inward, slowly, revealing a narrow archway and a descending stair lit by floating violet orbs. Cold air wafted up, carrying the scent of dust, old metal, and something sharper, ozone and power.
Kaelith's tail lashed once. "Smells like treasure… and death."
Alex drew his longsword. "Stay tight. Whatever's down there earned its own door."
They descended single file, Kaelith first, axe ready; Alex second, blade low; Mara last, staff glowing softly green.
The stair wound deeper than expected, steps uneven and slick with condensation, walls closing in until shoulders nearly brushed stone. The violet orbs floated at irregular intervals, casting long shadows that danced like living things. Kaelith's ears twitched at every drop of water, every faint echo from below. Mara's manic smile held steady, but her grip on the staff tightened, green light pulsing faintly in time with her heartbeat.
After what felt like minutes but could have been hours in the timeless depths, the stair ended in a circular vault, smaller than the main floors, ceiling low and domed, walls carved with spiraling runes that pulsed in time with their heartbeats. The air was thick, almost oppressive, charged with latent magic that made skin prickle and fur stand on end for Kaelith. In the center stood a single obsidian pedestal. Atop it rested a black iron coffer, sealed with three crimson gem locks. No guardians. No traps visible. Just silence and the weight of something ancient watching.
Kaelith growled low. "Too quiet. Like it's waiting for us to make a mistake."
Alex approached, sword ready, circling the pedestal once. The coffer was unadorned except for the locks—gems cut like jagged teeth, pulsing crimson in sync with the wall runes. He tested the air around it with his blade tip—no sparks, no resistance. Satisfied, he inserted the key into the first lock. It turned with a soft click, gem flaring bright, then dimming. A faint tremor ran through the floor, runes on the walls brightening for a heartbeat.
He repeated with the second, then the third. Each turn sent a stronger pulse of crimson light through the runes on the walls, the air humming with building energy.
The coffer lid rose on silent hinges, releasing a puff of dust and a wave of cold power that made breath fog.
Inside, major artifacts.
First: a gauntlet of blackened steel and crimson crystal, articulated plates shaped like dragon scales, palm inset with a fist-sized ruby that throbbed like a heartbeat. When Alex lifted it, heat rolled up his arm, fire magic humming under the metal, igniting a faint flame along his fingertips before he clenched his fist to extinguish it.
"Flamefist Gauntlet," Mara whispered, eyes wide. "It Amplifies fire spells. Even Let's you punch with literal flame. Rare, Very rare matter of fact. The ruby channels raw mana—could burn through armor like butter."
Next: a choker of dark silver, thin chain set with three small black opals. It pulsed faintly when Mara touched it, shadows seeming to deepen around her fingers. "Shadowveil Collar," she said. "Grants partial invisibility in dim light. Stealth and evasion. Perfect for ambushes. The opals draw from ambient darkness—stronger in deeper floors."
Last: a small leather-bound tome, cover cracked black leather, pages edged in gold. When Kaelith opened it, crimson script glowed across the first page, illuminating diagrams of binding circles and blood runes. "Blood Pact Grimoire," Alex read aloud. "Rituals to bind creatures, monsters, elementals, even people, into permanent service. Costs blood and will. But once bound… absolute loyalty."
Kaelith's tail stilled. Her amber eyes met Alex's, sharp, assessing. She flipped a page, claws trailing over a ritual diagram that flared briefly crimson under her touch.
"Useful," she rumbled. "For building a real pack. Bind a minotaur like the one we killed—make it fight for us. Or an elemental from deeper floors."
Mara's manic smile widened, almost manic enough to split her face. "We could have… more. Stronger ones. Fighters, Lovers. Whatever you want, hero. The rituals look simple—blood from master and bound, a circle drawn in salt and ash, words of command. But the cost… it says the bound's will breaks if they resist too hard."
Alex closed the tome carefully and strapped the gauntlet to his left arm. The fit was perfect; heat immediately flooded his veins, fire answering his call faster, hotter than before. He slipped the Shadowveil Collar around Mara's throat, chain cool against her freckled skin. She shivered, pleased, fingers brushing the opals.
The grimoire went into his satchel, weight promising power he hadn't imagined yet.
"No traps," Kaelith noted, sniffing the air. "No guardians. It feels almost disappointing."
Alex sheathed his sword. "The labyrinth gave us the key. Gave us this. Means it wants us to keep coming back. Means it's not done with us."
The vault door sealed behind them with a final, grinding thud that echoed up the stairwell like a heartbeat slowing to stillness. Alex, Kaelith, and Mara stood in the narrow archway for a long moment, breathing hard, blood still drying on their armor, the weight of new power humming against skin and steel.
The Flamefist Gauntlet clung to Alex's left arm like it had always belonged there, blackened steel scales warm, the fist-sized ruby in the palm pulsing faintly crimson with every beat of his heart. The Shadowveil Collar rested cool and light around Mara's throat, three black opals catching lamplight in tiny, hungry gleams. The Blood Pact Grimoire sat heavy in Alex's satchel, its leather cover almost fever-hot against his hip.
They climbed back through the labyrinth in near silence, floors passing in a blur of dispatched goblins and shattered skeletons, until they emerged into Eldoria's late-afternoon haze. The city swallowed them again: noise, smoke, the clink of coin and steel.
They moved straight to the Serpent's Coil. The innkeeper took one look at their faces, blood-streaked, eyes burning, and slid the top-floor key across without a word.
The suite door slammed shut. The lock clicked.
Kaelith turned, slow, predatory, tail lashing. She stepped toward Mara, claws flexing, amber eyes dark with intent. She reached out, gripped Mara's wrist, yanked her close, mouth crashing down in a claiming kiss, tail whipping around Mara's waist to pin her.
"My turn," Kaelith growled against Mara's lips. "You've been teasing all day, little pet. Now you kneel for your pack-sister."
Mara's manic smile never faltered. She let Kaelith push her back two steps, then suddenly twisted, using Kaelith's momentum against her. In one smooth motion Mara spun, gripped Kaelith's braid at the base, and yanked hard, forcing the beastkin's head back with a sharp gasp.
"No," Mara said, voice low, sweet, deadly. "You kneel, pretty bitch."
Kaelith snarled, claws coming up, but Mara was faster. She twisted the braid tighter, pulled Kaelith down until her knees hit the floor with a thud. Mara stepped forward, straddling Kaelith's shoulders, forcing her head back further until amber eyes stared up at her.
"Good little bitch," Mara purred, manic smile widening. "You fight so hard in the labyrinth, claw-slut, but here? You're our leaking pack-bitch. You beg when Hero says beg."
Alex watched, cock already hardening again, leaning against the wall with arms crossed.
Kaelith's tail thrashed, ears pinned, but her growl softened into a needy whine. Her claws dug into Mara's thighs, not fighting, just holding, leaving light red marks.
Mara yanked the braid again. "Lick."
Kaelith's tongue darted out immediately, lapping at Mara's dripping nectar. Mara moaned, hips rolling forward, grinding against Kaelith's muzzle, smearing slick across her face.
"That's it, tail-whore," Mara hissed. "Eat me like you mean it. Show master how desperate his fang-bitch is."
Kaelith growled into Mara's folds, tongue plunging deep, claws raking lightly down Mara's thighs, leaving thin red trails that made Mara buck harder. Mara fisted Kaelith's hair tighter, riding her face with short, brutal thrusts, manic smile never wavering.
Alex stepped forward, discarding his armor with quick, efficient movements. He knelt behind Kaelith, gripped her hips, claws pricking skin, and thrust into her soaked nectar in one hard stroke.
Kaelith moaned into Mara, the vibration making Mara cry out. Alex fucked her deep, brutal, hands pinning her hips so she couldn't pull away from Mara's grinding.
"Take it, my feral cunt," Alex growled, leaning over her back to bite her shoulder. "You're our rutting slave tonight. You come when we say."
Mara yanked Kaelith's head back by the braid, forcing her to look up. "Beg for it, collar-cunt. Beg me to fuck you with my fingers while our hero takes you from behind."
Kaelith's voice cracked, raw and desperate. "Please… Mara… please fuck me… finger this needy cunt… make master's heat-drunk bitch come…"
Mara laughed, low and cruel, and ground harder against Kaelith's tongue. Alex thrust deeper, faster, one hand sliding up to wrap around Kaelith's throat, claws digging in just enough to make her gasp.
Kaelith shattered first, walls clamping around Alex, howling into Mara's nectar. Slick gushed, soaking his cock, dripping down her thighs. Mara followed, screaming, thighs clamping around Kaelith's head, gushing over her muzzle.
Alex thrust deep one last time and came with a guttural roar, flooding Kaelith, spilling out around him as her walls milked him dry.
They collapsed together, sweat-slick, trembling, bodies tangled.
Mara stroked Kaelith's fur, manic smile softening. "Good little bitch," she murmured, kissing her blood-smeared cheek.
Kaelith rumbled, sated, tail curling around Mara's leg.
Alex held them close, one hand in Mara's hair, the other on Kaelith's hip.
