Everyone took a deep breath of relief after arriving. For a short moment the whole group stayed completely still and listened for any sound of alarm.
No shouts rose from the walls. No footsteps hurried toward their position. The wide illusion that Shinku held around them continued to make the area look empty and normal to any Cloud shinobi who might glance their way.
Shunsui's eyes immediately went to the Kumo shinobi who stood nearby. Some of them walked along the top of the walls while a couple stood near the small guard post where the sensor had been.
His mind immediately thought of games he could use to kill them before they could see the Konoha team or raise an alarm. He considered several options in rapid order.
Yet the enemies were too scattered and many of them stood outside the thirty metre range of his shikai.
He could maybe take a couple by surprise with his Kageoni by teleporting through the shadows of those who were already inside the range, but that would still leave most of the guards free to shout and call for help. The risk of discovery remained high if he acted alone.
He saw Shinku though not panicking and instead of trying to figure out their next move the older man already looked calm and focused. That expression made Shunsui realise that Shinku already had a plan ready.
"What's the next plan? Do I need to do anything to help?" Shunsui asked seriously.
His voice stayed low so that no sound would escape the illusion. Shinku smiled at the question and answered,"You are not the only one with special abilities here Shunsui. Let the others handle some things. They need to also give justification to their ranks too you know."
The words carried a gentle reminder that every member of the platoon had earned a place through skill and that the mission would succeed only when everyone contributed.
"Just activate your Shadow Demon game and watch the show." He said and Shunsui nodded.
Since they were clustered together only five Naras became participants of the game and the rest of the people inside the range were not Naras.
But those five were enough for Shinku's plan. The five Nara participants felt the change at once and their control over the shadows grew stronger than normal.
The Nara shadows stretched as their shadows moved from the safety of the illusion to the five Kumo shinobi nearest to them. Three of the targets stood on the walls and the other two were the remaining guards of the sensor nin.
Their movements stiffened at the same time as the black shapes wrapped around their bodies and locked every joint in place.
"Shadow Possession Jutsu complete." One of the Nara said in a low voice that only the team could hear. But thanks to Kageoni the Naras could use Shadow Possession Jutsu on multiple targets at once so the shadows stretched further to take the other guards on the wall as well.
Within moments the five Nara participants held all twelve Kumo shinobi around this side of the wall with their strengthened shadows. The Kumo shinobi could not move or even open their mouths because the Shadow Possession was much stronger with the help of the Shadow Demon game.
Their eyes stayed open and full of sudden fear yet no sound left their throats. They stood like living statues while the Konoha team remained hidden.
Shunsui did not know at first why the captured enemies were not being killed right away but he soon realised why. Hiori stepped forward a little and released a dense swarm of her special insects.
The dark cloud of kikaichu flew in the direction of each controlled Kumo shinobi and landed on their skin and clothes. The insects began sucking the chakra from each of them.
The Cloud shinobi grew weaker by the second as their energy was drained away. At the end of the process the insects finished the work and each of the twelve guards died without ever making a sound or raising an alarm. Their bodies remained standing only because the Nara shadows still held them upright.
Then one by one the members of the Shadow Platoon started transforming into the deceased Kumo shinobi.
They used the standard Transformation Technique and took on the exact faces, body shapes and clothing of the fallen Cloud ninja.
Shinku showed Genma the corpse of one of them and said in a calm voice, "Transform into him."
Genma obeyed at once. He formed the needed hand seals and felt his body change until he looked exactly like the dead guard.
The insects that had fed on that particular corpse then left the body and stuck onto Genma instead. They crawled inside his clothes and settled against his skin.
Genma could feel them tingling on his arms and back and moving with tiny legs across his shoulders.
'I am getting a bath as soon as I can if that ever happens to me.' Shunsui thought while he tried not to shiver.
Shinku gave Genma a questioning look and asked, "You know what's the best way to see through a Transformation Jutsu?"
Genma answered the question. "To see if the person you know is acting differently than what you remembered?"
Shinku shook his head gently and explained further. "That is only true when the transformed person is near others who know the transformed individual. The best method in such a large city is matching the chakra signatures of that person. If it does not match the face then he is a transformed individual."
He pointed toward the insects that now covered the team. "These insects have fed on the chakra of the transformed individual and for the next week they will be releasing the same chakra signature of the one who they have fed on."
The explanation made perfect sense. Any sensor who checked them would feel the familiar chakra of the dead Cloud shinobi and would not raise an alarm.
Shunsui looked at Hiori with new respect. 'Damn, she is damn resourceful. I should stop thinking that I am the only one special in this world. While I might have the most busted ability out there, there are other people with their own unique abilities that can be useful in different situations.' He watched the quiet Aburame woman as she directed her insects with small movements of her fingers.
Her technique had turned the dead enemies into perfect covers for the whole team and had given them a safe way to walk through the city.
