Chapter 133 - Chapter 131.3: Is That All You've Got?

He floated up a fraction, then drove his head down in a headbutt.

The crack was like a gunshot. The shockwave rippled outward.

The Hulk's eyes slammed shut. He went flying backward, tearing through walls, sliding across the deck for an enormous distance before stopping.

He appeared to black out. A full second passed.

Then the Hulk's eyes snapped open. A furious bellow tore out of him. He flipped himself over, massive fists hammering the ground as he pushed upright, then spun around and charged at Alex again. At the man who had, for just a moment, put him out.

The green beast howled. His muscles were coiled steel cables, his body vibrating with tension, and he hit like a freight train.

Alex smiled and blurred sideways, passing over the Hulk's head in a flash.

The Hulk looked up.

A hand pressed down on his skull.

Alex grabbed the back of his head and yanked backward.

The Hulk's feet shot out from under him. He crashed to the deck face-first. Alex held him down by the head and drove him forward, plowing a long furrow through the armored floor.

Then Alex lifted him, spun once, and hurled him straight up. The Hulk punched through deck after deck like a cannonball and exploded through the Helicarrier's top hull, screaming into the open sky and dwindling into a distant green streak.

Thor stared. His mouth was open.

Then he bellowed, swung the hammer into a spin, and launched himself at Alex.

Alex shifted his weight slightly and let Thor blast past him. He reached out, grabbed Thor by the ankle, and felt the god's expression change in an instant. He swung him down into the deck.

Then lifted him again. One full rotation. Let go.

Thor went sailing.

The moment he did, the deck above thundered. A cascade of debris and wreckage rained down. Among it, a green shape.

The Hulk was back.

He roared at Alex and came in running, snatching up a thick alloy beam as he went, wide as an oil drum, and swinging it hard as he closed the distance.

Alex stood still. He raised one hand and pressed it against the beam as it came in. The beam buckled where it met his palm, the metal warping and snapping apart.

He launched a kick into the Hulk's chest. A shockwave burst outward. The Hulk went airborne, straight into Thor who was charging back in. The two of them went down in a tangled heap.

They sorted themselves out. Thor looked up at the Hulk, "Banner, we need to work together."

The Hulk answered with a fist directly to his face and sent him flying again. Then turned back to Alex and roared.

"Is that seriously all you've got?"

"Good grief. You can't even beat Superman, let alone anything worse."

Alex shook his head.

Mildly disappointed.

He'd been fighting for a while now, and the experience feed for Divine Power, Heat Vision, Bio-Force Field, and his other talents had barely flickered.

Back in the DC universe, those notifications used to scroll nonstop.

Boom!

The sky outside cracked like thunder.

Alex looked up. Through the hole the Hulk had punched in the hull, blinding bolts of lightning were pouring down from the clouds above, all of them converging on one point: Mjolnir.

Thor's entire body was alive with electricity, crackling from head to toe. For the first time, he actually looked like the god of thunder.

He roared and thrust the hammer forward. A torrent of lightning thundered out.

"Now we're getting somewhere."

Alex's eyes blazed to life. Two searing beams of light shot out to meet the storm.

They hit.

A deadlock. The armory exploded with light, electricity arcing in every direction, golden heat and wild lightning grinding against each other.

Some of the ammunition in the room caught and detonated in a chain of rolling blasts. Fireballs erupted everywhere. Even the Hulk raised his arms to shield himself from the shrapnel and flames.

Alex smiled. He pushed harder, ramping up the solar radiation output, letting both beams thicken and merge into a single blazing torrent. It punched straight through the lightning and slammed into Thor.

Thor brought Mjolnir up to absorb it but was still driven back, step by grinding step.

Then the Hulk came in from the side. He dropped his elbow and drove it into the left side of Alex's temple.

It finally had an effect. Alex's head snapped sideways, and the beam drifted off course, skimming past Thor's hammer and cutting through the Helicarrier's structure.

The already-crippled ship now had a beam of concentrated solar heat slashing through it from the inside, carving a gash hundreds of meters long. Explosions followed. Fire poured through the wound like blood from a cut.

Inside, Alex grabbed the Hulk around the ribs and shoved. The Hulk sailed across the room.

Alex looked around. A slow smile spread across his face.

"Time to get serious."

"You lot, do your best to survive."

A faint red light began to radiate from his skin. His muscles swelled slightly. Something deep inside his body let out a low resonant hum.

He breathed out a slow, scorching breath. Then he raised his arm and closed his fist.

The next moment, an aura of terrifying, overwhelming power radiated from his entire body. This was Divine Power at fifty percent output.

Thor and the Hulk lunged at him simultaneously.

Alex smiled. And drove his fist into the deck.

A shockwave burst outward in a ring, hitting both of them like a wave of fast water, stopping them cold and throwing them back.

And where his fist had struck, the armored floor silently collapsed inward, cracking apart. Everything around the impact point buckled upward, the deck folding into a ring of twisted metal petals that spread outward in an expanding wave.

A deep, rolling sound moved through the entire Helicarrier. Then the ship lurched. Armor cracked. Engines blew.

In the next second, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier tore itself apart in the sky.

The broken hull rained continuous explosions. Figures were ripped out through the ruptures by the howling wind, screaming as they went.

Those were the lucky ones. Others hadn't survived the ship's destruction at all, taken by any number of means.

Wreckage, large and small and beyond counting, began to fall from nine thousand meters up.

Alex hung in the open air, scepter in hand. He watched the fates of the people inside the ship change, one by one.

Among the tumbling debris, the Hulk roared. He looked up at Alex from inside a falling section and exploded out of it. He landed on another chunk of wreckage, ran, launched off the front of a passing aircraft, and landed on a fractured section of deck above.

Bounding and jumping, piece to piece, always moving higher. Then he coiled his legs and threw himself upward with everything he had, rocketing toward the figure suspended high above.

The wild green beast bared its teeth at something that might as well have been a god.

Alex's eyes narrowed just slightly. He turned his body in midair and let the Hulk pass alongside him.

Then his eyes lit up. Two beams of golden light bloomed into a full burning torrent and hammered into the Hulk's body, blasting him downward. The Hulk's arms windmilled uselessly as he became a green comet headed for the earth.
