Chapter 143 - Chapter 134.1: The Traveler’s Ring

Over the next few days, Alex recited, from memory and in full detail, all the knowledge about interstellar travel he had learned from the Kryptonian spaceship, passing it on to Shuri and the Wakandans.

During that time, Shuri asked questions, and of course Alex couldn't answer them. So he gave her a mysterious smile and didn't explain.

The Wakandan princess misunderstood, thinking Alex was deliberately testing her. Her enthusiasm for learning shot up instantly, and the way she looked at Alex also changed a bit.

Unfortunately, Alex had no interest in her. Not to mention Shuri was skinny as a stick. He wasn't desperate enough to stoop to that level(age).

On this day, Alex finally finished teaching all the knowledge related to interstellar travel. Just as he was thinking he could take some time to study the Tesseract next, he suddenly heard a burst of exclamations from outside.

Alex quickly came to the living room. Someone had opened the main door, but outside it was filled with dazzling, multicolored light.

The cosmic gate had opened.

"Great Conqueror, this is?", T'Challa was also seeing such a phenomenon for the first time and couldn't help but look at Alex.

Alex said calmly, "Looks like I'll have to leave for a while."

"While I'm gone, focus on studying the knowledge I've taught you. Strive to achieve interstellar travel as soon as possible," He looked at the Wakandan prince.

"Also, keep an eye on those superheroes for me. Record their movements."

"Pay special attention to Iron Man and Captain America."

"At the same time, use Wakanda's international influence to put some pressure on those superheroes. Don't let them run all over the world."

T'Challa nodded quickly. If he had still been somewhat unwilling after Alex conquered Wakanda with force before, then over this period of time, he had personally witnessed how Alex toyed with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers in the palm of his hand.

On top of that, Alex had taught Wakanda knowledge of interstellar travel. Whether in strength or knowledge, the Conqueror was clearly on a completely different level from Wakanda.

Now, aside from awe, T'Challa had no other thoughts.

"Bring Miss Caitlin to me."

After saying that, Alex returned to his room, picked up the briefcase containing the Tesseract, and came back to the living room.

Caitlin had already arrived.

After briefly explaining the situation, Alex led the girl into the cosmic gate and returned to the Boys universe.

———

Above all dimensions. In a world that couldn't be described with words, there existed such a room.

This room resembled a command center. Countless holographic screens floated within it. On one of the screens, it showed Alex bringing Caitlin into the cosmic gate.

Below that screen was a string of numbers: 820412.

Then a voice like heavenly music sounded. It was like a beautiful melody, but when translated into Earth's language, it carried this meaning: "Unit 820412 has completed two 'multiverse events.' Mark for priority observation."

"Unit 048840 has completed three 'multiverse events.' Mark for priority observation."

"Unit 455620 has completed five 'multiverse events.' Mark for special observation."

If Alex were here at this moment, he would see that within those countless screens were countless versions of "Homelander."

There was a tall woman in a sky-blue battle suit, draped in a star-spangled flag, with blonde hair and blue eyes, sitting on a throne. Below her, men knelt on the ground, scrambling to kiss her toes.

There was also a man tens of thousands of meters tall, hands on his hips, laughing loudly as he looked down at tiny humans below, who were building statues of him.

There was a muscular mouse in a blue battle suit, an alien with multiple eyes and limbs, a demon whose eyes and hair burned with flames... all kinds of Homelanders appeared across the screens.

And these screens were too many to count.

———

Just like when entering the Marvel universe, when leaving, Alex's vision first filled with dazzling, multicolored light. The next second, he saw a nighttime street, saw a passerby hurry past him and glance at him.

When Alex turned his head, it was the music shop where Caitlin worked.

"We're back, Caitlin."

Caitlin said, "Where are we now?"

"Outside the music shop. Looks like we just came out from inside. Look, the door isn't even locked yet."

As he spoke, Alex locked the shop door.

"Come on, I'll take you home."

———

After sending Caitlin back to her apartment building in Chinatown, Alex entered the rental apartment opposite hers and immediately flew out through the window.

He flew toward the Seven Tower. At first cosmic velocity, he quickly returned.

At that moment, lines of information appeared on his retina.

[Multiverse Event 'Avengers' has ended.]

[Now conducting evaluation and settlement.]

[Evaluation complete. Details as follows.]

[1. You conquered Wakanda, changed part of their beliefs, altered their fate. Reward: 'Proficiency Essence' ×25, Vibranium 10 tons.]

[2. You destroyed one S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, including a large number of personnel. Reward: 'Proficiency Essence' ×10.]

[3. You changed the fate of Hawkeye Barton. Reward: 'Proficiency Essence' ×20.]

[4. You defeated the Chitauri army. Reward: one elite Chitauri unit of 100 soldiers (capable of outer space combat), one Chitauri interstellar ship, 'Proficiency Essence' ×32.]

[5. You influenced Tony Stark's thinking. Reward: Arc Reactor manufacturing technology.]

[6. You completed your second multiverse event. Reward: Multiverse Crystals ×14.]

After reading the information:

"Hmm! This time I got more 'Proficiency Essence' and 'Multiverse Crystals.'"

"Also got Vibranium, a Chitauri elite unit, a spaceship, and Arc Reactor tech."

"Quite a mix of stuff, but compared to last time, nothing that directly boosts me."

"However, in the Marvel universe, I used the Mind Stone to complete a transformation and evolution. That gain can't be compared to something like a 'Cape of Justice' or a 'Seed of Destruction.'"

"Not to mention I also brought back the Tesseract."

"These hidden gains far exceed the rewards from the event."

Thinking of the Tesseract, Alex opened the briefcase.

Then—

He jumped up on the spot.

The Tesseract inside the briefcase was now just an ordinary crystal block.

No light.

No energy presence at all.

"This…"

Alex slapped his forehead, "Don't tell me the Tesseract only works in the Marvel universe?"

Instantly, regret hit him hard. If he had known this, he wouldn't have wasted time teaching interstellar travel knowledge to those wakandans. He should have studied the Tesseract instead.

"Calm down, calm down. If I take the Tesseract back to the Marvel universe, it should regain its original effect."

Then Alex covered his face, "But who knows which universe Caitlin will take me to next time."

"Do I have to carry the Tesseract every single time?"

"Damn it!"

———

While Alex was cursing his own "stupidity" in the Seven Tower, on the other side of New York, in the home of CIA Deputy Director Susan Rayner, the bearded Butcher met her once again.

"Dear Susan, it's been so long. Why do I still see that cloaked bastard living so freely?"

"Shouldn't you have thrown him in prison?"

"Or at least let those damn stories hit the news?"

"Hm?"

When the deputy director turned on the living room lights and was startled by the bearded man sitting in the dark, Butcher spoke at length, carefully watching Susan Rayner's expression.

The deputy director shook her head, "I warned you. You can't just come in like this."

"Maybe I can."

Butcher showed his signature rogue smile, "After everything I've done for you, even getting myself turned into a wanted man."

"I think I have the right to sit here and wait for you."

"Come on, tell me."

"Susan, why is that bastard completely fine right now?"

"Or are you sleeping with him? Did he give you a satisfying hour?"

"If that's the case, I could probably satisfy you too."

The deputy director pointed at Butcher, "Watch your mouth."

Then she leaned against the liquor cabinet and sighed.

"Butcher, this has to stop."

"We can't continue."

Butcher stood up, smiling, "What, you're scared?"

"Poor Susan, got frightened?"

"Let me tell you. Frenchie and Mother's Milk got caught."

"Two of those pretty ladies from the Seven nearly beat the crap out of me. So I think this can't just end like this. Don't you agree?"

Director Susan held her forehead, "You don't understand. You really don't."

"That guy is out of control now. He doesn't care about anything anymore, including his reputation."

"For someone who cares about nothing, what do you think can threaten him?"

"Besides, I don't think what he said was entirely wrong."

A smile curled at Butcher's lips, "Oh, sounds like he said something pretty moving, to even convince our wise deputy director."

"Why don't you tell me."

"Let me hear what that saint had to say."

Susan looked at him, "If Compound V is exposed, what happens next?"

Butcher spread his hands, "No idea. Maybe those superheroes lose their jobs. But who cares?"

Susan shook her head and licked her lips, "That's exactly the problem, Butcher."

"If superheroes lose their jobs, they'll become the most troublesome unstable factor."

"They might turn into superpowered criminals. When that happens, with no superheroes left, who's going to stop them? You?"

Butcher raised his voice, "So that's your reason for compromising?"

"Just because you're worried those damn superheroes might lose their jobs?"

"That's ridiculous, Susan Rayner!"

"Without that guy, can't we deal with superhumans at all?"

Susan sighed, "Maybe we can. But right now, there's no benefit in falling out with Homelander."

"We need patience. We have to wait a little longer."

Butcher roared, "BUT I CAN'T WAIT!"

"I've done so much, and now just because you say 'WAIT,' I have to stop?"

"NO!"

"I've already waited eight years. I'm not waiting anymore."

Susan said in a low voice, "Butcher, don't do anything reckless."

"Reckless?"

Butcher laughed loudly, "More reckless than your Homelander?"

He pulled open the floor-to-ceiling window and glanced back.

"Our partnership ends here. From here on, I'll figure things out myself."

The deputy director hurriedly said, "What are you planning to do?"

Butcher smiled but didn't answer, and left her house.
