Seconds earlier, just after the flushing sound ended, Natalie pulled up her pants and was about to turn the doorknob when the main door of the restroom was suddenly pushed open.
She could have pulled her stall door open and walked out, but somehow she paused, wanting the person to pass by to the next stall. But instead of hurrying to an open stall, she heard another set of footsteps—sounding dragged, as if trying to keep up with the first.
Bang!
The door was furiously slammed shut, and then a wave of silence drowned the restroom for about two seconds before it was broken by Miles' snide voice.
"Mrs. Helen, you sure have the guts to come to my school, accuse me of your son's mental illness, and even drag me here," Miles said, glancing down at her hand, which held his wrist in a tight grip.
Helen's face flushed with embarrassment for a moment before switching back to the cold fury of a mother's love.
