Chapter 40 - Page 40

It was just like when Thor descended upon Earth—slamming straight into the ground.

As the pillar of light slowly faded, a one-eyed old man clad in golden armor and holding a golden spear suddenly appeared before everyone.

He first lowered his head to glance at the ground, then sat down heavily, looking utterly dejected.

His gaze shifted, slowly falling upon the shattered fragments of Mjolnir scattered across the ground.

Finally, he raised his head and stared at Peter's figure floating in midair.

"Was it you who destroyed Mjolnir?"

"Yes. I did it."

Facing Odin's arrogant gaze—one that seemed to see through everything—Peter replied without the slightest fear or hesitation.

"As expected. Beat the young one, and the old one follows."

"Unfortunately, for other novel protagonists, this might be a life-or-death situation."

"But for me, at worst, I can still take care of an old man."

Looking at Odin's imposing figure that could not hide his age, Peter felt no fear at all. In fact, he even felt the urge to fight him.

"But I was helping him—so he wouldn't only remember himself as the God of the Hammer and forget the true nature of his bloodline."

Peter wasn't making excuses. During the battle just now, although it looked completely one-sided, he had discovered the potential of this version of Thor—it seemed even stronger than the one from the main movie universe.

In moments of rage, Thor could unconsciously release the lightning power within his body.

Yet perhaps because he relied too much on his hammer, he had forgotten that he was the true God of Thunder—not a god dependent on a hammer.

"God of the Hammer…"

Hearing Peter's words, Odin turned to look at Thor behind him, his expression grave, as if deep in thought.

In truth, he knew very well that Thor possessed tremendous potential—perhaps even greater than his own.

That was precisely what frightened him. He feared that in his old age, he might not raise a wise and qualified ruler, but instead nurture another Hela…

"But no matter what, Mjolnir belongs to Asgard…"

Setting aside those thoughts for now, Odin turned his gaze back to Peter in the air, his sharp eye seeming to pierce through him.

For the first time in his life, Odin felt uncomfortable—he had always been the one others looked up to, yet now he had to look up at someone else.

In the next moment, without any obvious movement, his body was slowly lifted by an invisible force until he hovered at the same height as Peter.

"So what? It's already broken. You're not expecting me to pay for it, are you?"

Facing Odin, ruler of the Nine Realms, Peter spoke as casually as if he were talking to an ordinary old man.

On the ground, Captain America placed his shield down and looked up at the two figures in the sky, completely at a loss.

Glancing at the grim-faced Nick Fury beside him, he couldn't help thinking:

"In a world that's changed this much… what's the point of waking me up?"

"Yes… it's already broken."

Looking at the fragments of Mjolnir scattered across the ground, Odin fell silent.

As Thor's elder, he couldn't act rashly—lest he be accused of bullying the weak.

But as the ruler of Asgard, he also had to restore the glory Asgard had lost.

"Stop hesitating. Why don't we fight? I want to see whether, at your age, you're still qualified to rule the Nine Realms!"

Seeing Odin hesitate, Peter suddenly spoke, directly issuing a challenge.

"Human… are you provoking me?"

Hearing Peter's words, Odin could no longer maintain his cold composure.

The Eternal Spear in his hand trembled violently in the void, its sharp golden tip pointing straight at Peter.

In the next instant, an invisible yet terrifying aura swept outward in all directions.

On the ground, ordinary people were overwhelmed by this pressure—some even felt an urge to kneel.

Peter's aura clashed head-on with Odin's. He felt an equally sharp and powerful presence. Though his expression remained calm, his eyes gradually turned serious.

"As expected of Odin, the All-Father. Much stronger than Thor… though a bit too old."

Even so, he did not retreat. His gaze remained locked onto Odin as crimson light gathered relentlessly in his eyes.

"Hmph!"

Seeing that Peter wasn't intimidated, Odin felt both shocked and furious.

He let out a cold snort.

The sound wasn't loud, yet it instantly echoed across all of New York, stunning nearly everyone for a brief moment.

High above the city, Odin's overwhelming aura caused wind and clouds to spiral violently, like the eye of a colossal storm tilting downward, plunging New York into an apocalyptic scene.

But the next second, a beam of golden light shot up from the ground, instantly dispersing the doomsday vision.

"Hm? You want to get involved as well…?"

Odin's gaze shifted instantly, as though piercing through space itself.

"What?!"

In the next moment, he snapped his attention back to Peter—whose eyes were now filled with such intense crimson energy that even Odin was shocked.

At the same time, Odin grimly raised the Eternal Spear, urgently channeling his vast Odinforce through it toward Peter.

Boom!

Two terrifying energies—one crimson, one golden—collided instantly.

The violent impact shook the void itself, releasing a roar far more terrifying than the battle between Peter and Thor.

It was as if a blazing star had exploded above New York, unleashing a visible energy storm that swept outward at incredible speed.

Anything touched by that power was annihilated—even the air itself was torn apart.

On the ground, countless people stared at the sky, longing to flee, yet feeling nothing but helplessness.

They could only watch as the seemingly world-ending energy rushed toward them.

"If possible, I'd really like to go back to being frozen."

Captain America raised his shield… then slowly lowered it.

Click!

Suddenly, a sound like shattering glass pierced everyone's ears.

In the next instant, the massive energy wave—and the two figures fighting in the sky—vanished.

Click!

Then space itself shattered like a mirror.

A disheveled figure tumbled out of the broken void, rushing straight toward Thor on the ground, followed by two deep-crimson beams.

"Father, you—!"

Thor stared in disbelief as Odin blocked the crimson beams with the Eternal Spear.

"Heimdall!"

Odin grabbed Thor with one hand and shouted into the void.

The next moment, the Bifrost crashed down, enveloping Odin and Thor in radiant light.

As the beam of the Bifrost rapidly faded—

Peter burst out of the shattered void, his crimson heat vision immediately turning toward the retreating light.

Under Peter's relentless beams, Odin and Thor vanished completely into the Bifrost.

After a long while, Peter finally stopped releasing his heat vision at full power—for the first time.

His eyes still glowed with cold red light as he stared into the void and spoke calmly:

"Hmph. They ran pretty fast."

Peter waited for a moment, watching the figure disappear into the void.

"Hm? She still hasn't appeared?"

After waiting a while with no one showing up, Peter felt puzzled.

"Why is it that in novels, protagonists who travel to the Marvel universe are almost immediately targeted by her, yet in my case… she seems to be avoiding me?"

Finding it strange but not worth dwelling on, Peter gathered the scattered fragments of Mjolnir.

Under the awed gazes of the crowd, he soared into the sky and departed gracefully.

As Peter left, atop a nearby rooftop, golden sparks—like those from a welding torch—slowly appeared before a figure in a yellow monk's robe.

The sparks drifted in the wind, stretching and expanding into a yellow portal about two meters wide.

The robed monk stepped calmly into the ring of light. A strange black rune briefly appeared between his brows—then vanished.

"…Is it finally over?"
