Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Weight of Trust

The fragment of cloth lay in Cancer's hands, dark and stained with ash. It was proof that the silent betrayer had left something behind. The circle gathered once more, suspicion heavy in the air.

Virgo's voice was sharp, precise. "The cloth is evidence. Someone among us touched the lanterns. Cancer, Scorpio—whose garment does this belong to?"

Capricorn's tone was firm. "Duty demands we act. If we do not punish betrayal, we invite more. Trust must be restored through consequence."

Cancer's heart trembled. "But trust cannot be restored through punishment alone. We must understand why."

Scorpio's eyes burned. "Duty without compassion is cruelty. We will not condemn blindly."

Leo's golden aura flared. "You hesitate too much, Cancer. Hesitation is weakness. If we do not act, the betrayer will strike again."

Aries stepped forward, fire sparking in his eyes. "And if we act wrongly, we fracture the circle beyond repair. Strength is not in haste, Leo—it is in truth."

Sagittarius strummed his guitar, his melody restless. "Perhaps betrayal is not in strength, but in cunning. The lanterns were dragged, yes—but who planned it? Who thought to guide the phantoms?"

Pisces' voice was soft, pleading. "The cloth may belong to anyone. Shadows cling to all of us. Do not cast blame too quickly."

Libra raised her arms, her voice calm but strained. "Balance! If suspicion consumes us, the circle will collapse. Cancer, Scorpio—your love must guide us. Hunt the truth, but do not let anger blind you."

That night, Cancer and Scorpio sat together at the pier, the cloth between them.

Cancer whispered, "Every clue wounds us more. Trust is breaking. What if the betrayer is someone we love?"

Scorpio's grip tightened on her hand. "Then we face it together. Even if the truth shatters us, love will mend us."

The stars shimmered faintly, as if listening. The circle was fractured, suspicion spreading like cracks in stone. But at its heart, Cancer and Scorpio stood together—fragile, yet unyielding, determined to bear the weight of trust and uncover the truth.
