Chapter 18 - CHAPTER 18: Surprise

AYA'S POV:

Today was a heartbreaking mess. I broke up with my boyfriend of two years after finding out he was a player. I know it was just high school love, nothing more than teenage hormones that everyone experiences at least once in their life but it was still sad… and unusual for me.

I went to my apartment on the sixth floor. I had to take the stairs because our old apartment building doesn't have an elevator or anything like that. As soon as I entered my apartment

POP!

A party popper exploded right in my face.

"Surprise! Surprise!"

It was Annie and Kayla. They were there to give me a birthday surprise.

It was really kind of them, they remembered my birthday, decorated my entire apartment, and even brought a cake and party stuff. But today was so tiring and exhausting that I couldn't even fake a smile. They immediately noticed something was wrong.

"What happened?" Annie asked.

"Why are you looking so sad, girl?" Kayla said.

"Remember Brian? My boyfriend…"

"Yeah… the one who works with you at the café," Annie said.

"Yeah. We broke up."

"Ohhh… why? What happened? He seemed nice, and you both looked so happy last week," Kayla asked.

"Yeah… he "seemed" nice. But in reality, he was a freaking player and I caught him."

"Oh…"

"That's… sad. So what are you gonna do?" Annie asked softly.

"What can I do?"

Kayla suddenly got an idea.

"Let's turn on some music and party. It'll lift your mood for sure!"

Not a bad idea. I love dancing and partying, it might help with my depressed mood.

Annie turned on the music.

Music playing.

We started vibing to it.

It played,

"I'm a player, liar, cheater…

What you gonna do? Huh?

You gonna sit and cry?

That's what you gonna do, huh?"

The realization hit all of us, too hard… especially for me.

I started crying louder and louder.

Kayla signaled Annie to turn it off while she tried to console me.

Annie rushed to stop the music.

"It's not turning off!!!"

Kayla grabbed the speaker and threw it out of the window.

We all felt a moment of relief until reality hit again.

We rushed to the window to see where it landed. Our eyes widened in shock.

It had shattered the front glass of a man's car.

We immediately hid and closed the window, hoping no one would ever find out it was us.
