Chapter 41 - CHAPTER 41: Traditional

KAYLA'S POV:

In the morning, I dressed up like a traditional Japanese woman. Even women in Japan aren't this traditional or dressed like this, but I searched on Google all night and finally bought a Japanese traditional dress, a kimono.

I tied my hair in a bun like in the pictures and took a fan in my hand like the Japanese women I saw online.

I did heavy makeup so no one would recognize me, overdone pink blush, dark red lipstick and I even added fake braces so she wouldn't recognize me. I also wore sunglasses so I'd look like a modern Japanese mother. I know it looks cringe, sunglasses over a traditional dress, but I'm pretending to be one of those typical rich wives who act elite and sophisticated while actually just being maids for their husbands. Oh God, so annoying but I have to do it today.

I went downstairs. I slipped and fell three times in the hallway. Now I'm gambling my life on these stairs while wearing high heels and sunglasses.

Oh God, if I die, this will be a murder and the murderer will be Theo because he's making me do this!

Somehow, after tightly holding onto the railing, I managed to get downstairs and walk to the front door like a blind old lady.

Theo and my stepfather came in and saw me. Both their eyes widened in shock. My stepfather spoke up.

What the hell?!

What?

What are you wearing?!

This… is for my photoshoot. You know, school magazine photoshoot… fixing my sunglasses even though they're already straight.

You're going to wear this?

Yes. Step aside, I'm going out.

I walked forward and bumped into a pillar.

My bad… walking again.

Theo followed me to the car, and we started driving. He spoke up.

You don't need to dress like that.

Why? Aren't you Japanese?

Yeah, but my mother wasn't. Only my father was. Even my stepmom isn't Japanese.

I saw your grandma....she wasn't Japanese, and still she's living traditionally in Japan.

That's different. When women in my grandma's generation got married, they accepted their husband's culture and traditions. Not now. My mother never even spoke a Japanese word to me.

Oh wow, and still you know Japanese…

Yeah, because I was always in Japan at my grandma's house.

Yeah, but this mother will speak Japanese, so shut up.

Speak Japanese?!

Yeah, why? You think I can't?

Yes, you can't. You only learned a few words from anime. You can't say you can talk in Japanese.

Just trust me and relax.

He already knew he was cooked now.
