KAYLA'S POV:
I walked into my room and immediately threw my exhausted body onto the bed, letting out a long, heavy sigh as my muscles practically melted into the mattress.
"Thank God Ryuk handled it… or I would've been completely doomed today."
I groaned softly, staring up at the ceiling for a moment, replaying the chaos of the day in my head. My whole body felt drained, and all I wanted was a little peace.
Reaching over to the nightstand, I grabbed my first phone and unlocked it, my eyes lazily scanning the screen.
Nothing unusual.
Just the same old notifications, random messages, and a few things I didn't care enough to check right now.
I hummed to myself and tossed it aside before picking up my second phone.
The moment the screen lit up, my entire body froze.
My eyes widened.
My breath caught in my throat.
HIS TEXT.
For a second, I just stared at the screen like it might disappear if I blinked.
"What...."
I sat up so fast I nearly dropped the phone.
"Where did he even get my number from…?"
I paused.
Then my own words slapped me right across the face.
"…Don't be dramatic, Kayla."
I buried my face into my pillow with a muffled squeal.
"I literally gave it to him myself…"
But still—
I hadn't actually expected him to use it.
Not really.
Not in a million years.
I mean… sure, I had handed him my number that day, but that had been more of a bold, impulsive, confidence-I-didn't-actually-have kind of move. I never thought he would actually text me.
And yet… here it was.
A message from Hari.
My Hari.
My future husband… Hari.
Texted me.
A giggle escaped my lips before I could stop it, and I flopped back onto the bed, clutching the phone to my chest like some ridiculous lovestruck teenager in a drama.
"Oh my God…"
I rolled from one side of the bed to the other, grinning like an idiot, my cheeks burning so hot I was sure I could fry an egg on them.
Then I forced myself to sit up again and opened the message.
HARI: Are you okay?
